The common thing i've noticed in guitar shops in the last 2 year.... Djent. We get it, you watch metal covers of pop songs on youtube because you have no sense of irony and taste.

My go-to guitar try-out music is either
jazz or
random old surf music.
I might not play any of it well but at least it's something that won't have been heard a million times already.
Distance-crunching honcho with echo unit.

I always play Freak Scene when trying guitars. That or my own stuff/some awkward half assed Tom Verlain style solo.
