though, Molly didn't exactly get an amazing reply from the audience when she made fun of our cities name ("Cologne sounds like colon") and mentioned that she loves our waffles (...even the band facepalmed). oh well... ::)

Finally got to see them live last night. They opened for The Strokes at a huge venue and my bandmate had an extra ticket.

They had a few alternate intros for songs, but it was more or less the same stuff they've been playing for a while, not that I have a problem with that.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to see them as a headliner one of these days.

That's how I feel. The bands I like tend to be openers and it's disappointing. I saw Japanese Breakfast as a headlines, which was awesome, but I balanced that out with seeing Deep Sea Diver as an opener. They were great, but the set was a bit short, and the headliner sucked. I keep hoping for some news of a new Alvvays album in the next year or so...

Just got into this band! And Seapony! Seapony is also super brilliant, slightly more garagey. It’s nice to have straightforward guitar melodies again! Her voice is very Sundays-ish. It took me a minute to warm up to its lack of bass or midrange haha! But now some of those first album songs are playing on my Upstairs Radio (my brain) and I like it. I even thought I wrote a new riff but then realized it was one of her vocal melodies!

Both bands SUPER remind me of Heavenly. Ah Heavenly...

:-* Heavenly.
I'd also recommend checking out Veronica Falls (2010s) and Tiger Trap (1990s) if you haven't yet.

Isn’t doing it for me. Didn’t enjoy any of the singles. They played London a few weeks ago & missed them. Back over soon so no doubt I’ll hear the tracks live and change my mind.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Wow this is so weird. I was just thinking about this band. I have been listening to a band called Beach Bunny and realized that fans of this band and Seapony will probably like them! They're much more like the Ramones than the other bands, but lots of heart and emotion and pretty cool vocals. I even considered digging up this old thread and saying this, and here we are.

I have not heard the new Alvvays.

The new beach bunny album is really strong. Also, amazing coup to get Apple using it for the iPhone 14 press stuff.

The buried vocals on Pharmacist were annoying at first, but overall the singles have grown on me.

They’re playing here in Seattle, but it’s in an old theater with poor acoustics for rock music, so planning to skip it.

Really loving the new record. Some terrific singing and interesting structures for 3 minute pop songs.

Some of the production undersells the songs in a few places and it’s a little muddy, but I’m still calling this a win.

I feel I’m being a bit harsh on it as I was hoping for an upbeat pop album.

After Yumi Zuma and Barrie both released almost perfect synth-pop albums this year (fully recommend the latter if you’ve not heard them) I guess I don’t need another Antisocialites.

They did an interview saying they deliberately shied away from going full synth pop on this one, even though it was the more obvious choice. This does feel more like a record to me than 10 songs, if that makes sense. I love the other two records, too—kinda digging the mood shifts on this one a bit more.
