I listened again. I don't know if I am emboldened by the other comments or what, but this is so unenjoyable. I cannot think of a single good thing to say :-X

It sounds like a refined version of this garbage.

No one lost an eye.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Tough crowd.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I thought it was pretty awesome... Definitely has some John Mclaughlin Mahavishnu Orchestra vibes.

Just listened to it. Thought it was great. Very interesting guitar parts.
Was not nearly as all over the place as I expected from reading the comments in this thread.

I dig it, cats.

The structured parts remind me a bit too much of 90's King Crimson, or, as I called them, Kringe Crimson.

My problem with some of Nels' and Julian's stuff: I wind up going, "Where's the one? WHERE IS THE ONE? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE TIME SIGNATURE IS ANYMORE!!!" :wtf:

I'm not sure I like them together. In theory its a good idea and they look like they're having a great time! But I dig Nels and Lage separately. I wasn't much a fan of their previously collab either. Technically challenging and amazing but not something I listened to more than once. I feel the same about this one.

....although...I'll probably check out the rest of the album anyways. You know....just in case.

Yep. This is my thoughts as well.

I also don't care much for his collaborations with Jim Campilongo, either.

Lovers is one of the most beautiful albums ever recorded IMO.

Just to offset my earlier negativity, I completely agree with this. It is a beautiful album!

I also like Lage when he plays with Glaspy.

I don't buy a lot of jazz, maybe only a couple a year and very very little 'guitar jazz'. Call me a shallow and sugary popstrel but even with jazz I like a tune or at least repetition, I don't mind folk going off on one but I generally like it over a fairly locked down groove, if everyone is getting busy with it I tend to tune out.

By way of illustration FYI the best 'Jazz' record I bought last year was by Hampshire and Foat which is probably too library pop and romantic for this thread.

Forgot the James Holden and the Animal Spirits record which was also totally superb but a bit more edgy and if you like that you'll maybe likeSzun Waves which was recorded in Holdens studio.
