Rush is probably the perfect band. That performance did sound a little out of tune though.
That dancing in the street video (the real one that is), was even cringeworthy back in the '80s. The only thing I can gather is that they thought if it was cheezy and over the top enough, we would laugh with them. It didn't work.
I love the silent version. Especially when they are in the street and it's so quiet with just the distant sounds of sirens and their lone voices.

Oh by far my favourite too. A lot of those are just too hard to sit through.parry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 3:47 pmThis one is my absolute favourite shred: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-0CS-T1HUQ
I don't know if this is sarcasm but i also can not understand peoples love for Rush, not even in the slightest. I just can't stand Geddy Lee's voice, but so many others love them; i'm glad i'm not the only one on the nay side of things.

I think Generation Z'ers and Millennials don't have the patience to listen to it. ARcade Fire and Artic Monkeys would the musical benchmark...but everyone can have an opinion.thisisnickpaige wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 7:22 amOh by far my favourite too. There is no accounting for taste, and Geddy's voice is of course unusually high. I'm glad I like it and that it isn't a barrier to me to their great music, but it is a complaint I hear occasionally. I tend to avoid prog with long songs broken up into pretentiously named movements. I know there are some great things on 2112 (We aaare the priests of the Temple of Syrrrinx!!). They said that recording Hemispheres and especially La Villa Strangiato was where they reached the breaking point.
I really got into them (in terms of buying albums and listening to them on purpose) with Moving Pictures, the classic gateway I suppose. My interest was somewhat short lived since I bowed out at Power Windows.

I always ridiculed them as AOR prog rock pretension, as I got older I finally admitted that they have a few very good songs.
A whole lot of dreck, but some of their songs are very good. Overall I’d never really listen to them, but they always seemed like nice guys who cared a lot about what they did. You’ve got to respect anyone who has had the career they did.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

“Put aside the alienation, get on with the fascination “ is a lyric as good as any, and would have been good advice for younger Larry to have taken.

Re: Man, I didn't even know it had COME to this.
I've never cared for them, mainly due to the lyrics & Geddy's vocals. The lyrics were always a little too fairy tale-esqe for me. I do think they are good musicians but I've just never cared for the music, except for a few songs here & there. It makes it worse that the 2 guys I play in a band with love them & constantly break out into Rush songs during practice (otherwise known as a bathroom break for me). I do have respect for their longevity & believe that they do believe in what they are doing if that counts for anything. I don't mind them when they come on the radio but I also never listen to the radio.
We are merely moving shadows.

I was just lamenting the recent lack of 'hilarious' wacky student novelty threads in 'Music'...equilibrium restored.
Anyone got any links to Rush slowed down or speeded up?

What do you mean about about those being the benchmark? As in they're the ones we judge older bands by?budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:51 pmI think Generation Z'ers and Millennials don't have the patience to listen to it. They are incredibly talented, and innovative, so nothing off them there. I can deal with high voices, it's just the timbre/vibrato he has that turns me off.
