RIP Tommy Keene

Sad--what a terrific songwriter and guitarist.

Power pop genius--great melodies, although a lot of his records came off as too polished. "Songs From the Film" is terrific, and the "Real Underground" compilation is great.

I love his version of "Kill Your Sons":

sad to say i had never heard of him (surprising, too, as he's right up my musical alley).

i've really been enjoying his music today...thanks for passing it on.

peace to him and to you.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Tommy was my musical hero since I was 16 and first heard "Places That Are Gone" - His death was so unexpected that it took me a few days to accept that it was real. Terrible thing.

Not only was he a great player and songwriter, he was also one of the nicest people (not just artist) that I've ever met. Add that to all of the great music he put out over the years (not a single bad song, record, solo...) and you had someone who was genuinely special.

If you're looking for something to listen to, Ten Years After and Isolation Party are probably his best albums in terms of writing and playing. Not a weak song on either record --- Any place in his catalog is a good place to start, though.

Gonna miss him.

(In pretty much all of the reporting of his passing, his music has been described as "power pop" - He said once that he just thought of himself as just a rock and roll musician. I always agreed with that ---- Still do.)

RIP

Grabbed a bunch of his records recently after realizing that I hadn't really listened to him before and man, some really great stuff on here. I wish I'd known about him while he was still with us. This is also coinciding with my rediscovery of my Telecaster so some great tones and playing to mine from on these.
And you find out life isn't like that
It's so hard to understand

was listening to him the other day, his loss is huge. check out this ace cover of Carrie Anne he did back around '95, on a Hollies tribute album called "Sing Hollies in Reverse" (all of which is 100 percent brilliant w/ Mitch Easter, Posies, Scott Miller, Steve Wynn and other luminaries):
