i agree with that, tomorrow's modern boxes is a total gemSinglebladepickup wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 8:49 amNot trying to derail the thread since it's about Radiohead, and specifically one of their albums, but it made me want to check out this Thom Yorke solo album Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. It's pretty good, as a whole I probably like it more than the Eraser

Can’t decide upon my fave Radiohead album. For a long time it was in rainbows but then recently I’ve been getting back into ok computer. I think the most disjointed album is HTTT although I still like it.

I'm a Kid Amnesiac fanboy at heart, but I really did enjoy In Rainbows when it came out. 10 years ago. Jesus I'm old.

I'm still impressed by how they released it--mind blowing at the time, now de rigeur.

I'm curious as to how widespread this is with actual unit shifting acts. Radiohead seemed to abandon it and their business model is more slanted to price gouging an extra fiver on their vinyl over the average and releasing fancy U2 style editions north of £50 IIRC?
I just looked it up...62% of people chose to pay nothing and in the end the average sale was $2.20, which just goes to show that honesty boxes don't work. Funnily a farmer recently told me he was closing his fresh egg honesty box at the gate of his farm, which I'd used regularly because people were just taking and never paying.

I sort of thought that was the point where they realized, or at least finally acknowledged that the profit on recorded music was gone. People are just going to steal it - so might as well get what you can for it.shadowplay wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 9:35 amI'm curious as to how widespread this is with actual unit shifting acts. Interesting that their vinyl is more over that side of the pond. It’s priced the same over here. It is consistently some of the best sounding vinyl out there. IIRC everything gets mastered (and possibly mixed) differently for digital and vinyl

Re: In Rainbows
This may also explain the high price of their gigs in London not so long ago. Wasn't it 2 or 3 consecutive nights they played at the Roundhouse. Tickets were close to £60 a pop, around twice the price that other bands ask. Probably small change compared to their yearly global takings but, still. Maybe it was a case of "Yeah, we're pricey but some of you fuckers got a whole album for free".thedude99 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 10:37 amI sort of thought that was the point where they realized, or at least finally acknowledged that the profit on recorded music was gone. You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Re: In Rainbows
^^ That’s pretty much true in these parts for any in demand artist these days. Shows have become very expensive to compensate for lack of album sales revenue.
And it’s only getting worse. I’m starting to see bands charge market value for tickets instead of selling below market and leaving the profits to the scalpers.
