Quite a nicely written article on OK Computer...
I'd seen the posters for the re-release around town but kind of blanked them out. I must admit, back when it was released I saw it as a game-changer. I still think it's an excellent album, maybe their best (or maybe level with Hail To The Thief).
I won't moan too much about them squeezing more cash out of fans, as they did when they charged a whopping great 60 quid for Roundhouse tickets. I gather 3 nights sold out in minutes so there was obviously demand (although there was also a big stink about touts).
Anyway, I enjoyed the read. Partly a 5-star review (zoiks!) but it also does well putting the album in context, now & then.
Enjoy, or not, depending on your preference.

This is another great read

The fact that they only took one month from touring and recording between '93 and '98 goes along way to explain the breakdown Yorke was having at the time.
Brilliant album. Hasn't left my stereo for very long since it came out. The three unreleased tracks are all fantastic. Better than the othe b-sides of the era.

"We were well adept at playing to people that didn't give a rat's ass about us," says Yorke. "I used to quite enjoy it. People are sitting down to their chicken dinners. We were trying to get them to choke on the bones."thedude99 wrote:This is another great read

I remember seeing them play in the RDS Dublin on the 21st June 1997 (billed, of course, as The Longest Day). That was the gig that spawned the song "How To Disappear Completely..." iirc (hence the line about floating down the Liffey).
It was sort of a pivotal moment for me - I'd just turned 18, finished my first year in uni and went to the gig with my mates from my home town. Without planning it (this was largely pre-mobile phones) I ran into my uni mates and both groups got on like a house on fire - we ended up back in someone's house until all hours in what was truly one of the best nights of my college days. It was also the day when I met the guys I'd end up playing music with for about six years.
I thought about this again last week when Radiohead played the 3 Arena here on the 20th (nearly 20 years to the day from their '97 gig). I've been aware of what Radiohead have released over the years, but the last album of theirs that I really liked was In Rainbows (and that's 2008). A Moon Shaped Pool had it's moments too maybe... I didn't go to the gig, not because it sold out in minutes, but because it would be hard for a gig to top that long ago concert in 1997.

With the fanaticism that the die hard fans show, it wouldn't surprise me.
