10:15 Saturday Night with Michael Dempsey on bass, 1979.
They looked a little sped up that night.

Re: The Cure..when they were punk.
Similar version can be heard on besides and rarities album that came with the rerelease of 3 imaginary boys
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Robert Smith's punk credentials are well documented.
What I find scary is how much a young Robert Smith looks like Michael Owen!

It's not dissimilar to the studio version, no?
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I always thought Michael Dempsey's finest moments were with Billy Mackenzie and The Associates rather than The Cure.

Agree wholeheartedly, I love The Associates and think Billy had a voice of such magic.eggwheat wrote:I always thought Michael Dempsey's finest moments were with Billy Mackenzie and The Associates rather than The Cure.

I saw the Cure around this time but I never thought they were very good until I bought A Forest single. To be honest by 1979 I was well over any notion of punk, not that I ever really roped the Cure into that. Punk was IMO a catalyser over a music genre for me all day long and by 1979 at least round my way punk was getting very commodified, a bit naff and easily purchased from a special 'punk' shop.

This is different from the studio version...if you watch the whole thing, they do that cool break down in the middle. More like a jam....
