Blackeyed Susans - New album(!) and Australian tour(!)

Post by andy_tchp » Mon May 29, 2017 2:51 pm

Not sure if there are a lot of Blackeyed Susans fans on here, but I was pretty surprised to see they were touring for a new album - I saw the gig poster at Rockinghorse records in the city but assumed it was an old one they'd saved due to being fans.

Looking forward to seeing them in a venue not much bigger than my living room! Have only given the album a few spins, but it's sounding good. Rob still with the velvet smooth voice...

I really like the Triffids song by the same name.

Sorry I've not got anything to say on the Blackeyes Susan offshoot band, I've heard them but don't own any of thier albums but at least someone replied.

Totally off topic but Aussie adjacent and I thought you might be interested. I just bought the new cassette by the excellent English band The Left Outsides (who I recommend especially this song )and they do an excellent over of Civil War Lament by Jack Frost (Steve Kilbey and Grant McLennan)

David McComb (Triffids lead singer) was an original member of the Blackeyed Susans and set the band up for Rob Snarski, who's voice he was a huge fan of.
Unfortunately with Dave's health and a few other things he only played with them early in the piece and most people only know of the Susans post their hit, Smoking Johnny Cash.

D, really enjoyed 'Deep Rivers Move in Silence; Shallow Brooks Are Noisy'. I have to admit I am/was entirely ignorant of Jack Frost's existence(!)

Really looking forward to the gig (possibly gigs) this weekend; the new album (the first in more than a decade) is really, really good!

^^^

cool, glad you like it, it's one of the best straightahead guitar music track I've heard in good while. Really beautiful combination of music and beautiful affecting and yet understated signing.

Yep; almost immediately I had thoughts of 'that sounds like Jill Birt' :)

Talking of Jill Birt, she released an album which went largely unnoticed back in 2013.

Andy, are you off to the Queensland Music performance of 16 Lovers Lane?
I see Kilbey is involved in that as well!!!

Shit, I wasn't even aware that was on. Maybe I do need to tick the box that signs me up for QPAC's spam.

Wednesday night, should be a goer -- thanks man!
