As others have said, what a voice.

And what a shame.

I remember reading a Rolling Stone interview he did about 20 years ago, where he said he contemplates suicide every day of his life. This morning, I have to confess it was the first thing I thought when I read the news. As someone who deals with depression, it strikes me that no one is immune. You can have all the money and fame in the world, you can have the adulation of people who genuinely love what you do, you can have all the access to getting treatment, but those demons are fucking powerful. And all it takes sometimes is a bad day or two to send you into a spiral that is difficult to get yourself out of. I've never been an addict, but I can imagine it is very similar to someone working on their sobriety day after day.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I thought much the same after Robin Williams. Really unfortunate to hear this is how he went out.

Same (with Robin Williams).

I have loved the shit out of Soundgarden since I first heard Black Hole Sun in 7th grade and it scared the crap out of me. Tough day.

I'll be honest. I expected it to be a drugs overdose. I know very little about Chris Cornell's past or if he fought depression but I'm still shocked that it was a likely suicide.

So fucking tragic!

Fifty-two... that kind of creeps me out. I'll feel a little better once it's known what did it so I can rationalize it in some way.
Stay away from rope & you'll be fine. I'm just glad he wasn't masterbating or deficating...or both. In all seriousness, he was an amazing singer & made some incredible music.

It did remind me of David Carradine a bit. Sad way to go.

There seems to be a growing trend over the past few years. David Carradine, Michael Hutchins, Robin Williams. It is unfortunate but the older I get the more I realize that life is not for everyone.

FWIW, Robin Williams was suffering with a nightmarish condition known as Lewy Body Dementia that destroys both the body and mind.
“We were living a nightmare,” Susan Schneider said of life with Robin Williams in his final months. Indeed, says Professor McKeith, one study found that when carers looking after someone with LBD were asked to rate their quality of life on a scale of nought to one (where nought was as bad as it could be), one in four rated it as less than nought.

Given the same prognosis, I'd do exactly what he did - while I still could.
"I don't know why we asked him to join the band 'cause the rest of us don't like country music all that much; we just like Graham Lee."
David McComb, 1987.

Really sad news to wake up to. Soundgarden was a big part of my teenage years, and I was lucky enough to see them a few years back when they got back together. RIP
