Mika Vainio of Pan Sonic passed away suddenly the other day while on vacation in France.
Pan Sonic was the first group that i heard that got me into minimal electronic stuff. i think i heard them something like 15 years ago and fell in love. I also really liked his output as Ø.
i own some of his stuff on vinyl, which i bought when i was in Berlin 5 years ago. Also a fun fact is that he lived down the street from where i stayed in Berlin. I saw him once on the street.

Oh fuck, I love his music and I think I own everything he ever put out; solo, with Panasonic, remixes, collaborations, the lot.
A genuine Titan of electronic music.
He was only three years older than me.

Re: RIP Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic/Ø)
I saw Pan Sonic open for Trans Am back in the late 90s. I didn't know them. They started their show with a very loud squeal of electronic noise. The girl I was with at the time loudly protested and demanded that we leave immediately. I said no, I wanted to see Trans Am. She told me we were over and left.
Our relation had been going badly for months, we were constantly fighting, and we were both sick of each other. That Pan Sonic show was the last straw.
I became a fan!

Oh no
Yeah, my first thought is that he wasn't of the age where you would be expecting him to shuffle off shortly.shadowplay wrote:He was only three years older than me.

What a huge loss.
Got into Pan Sonic through their collaboration with Charlemagne Palestine, have been listening to 'Kulma' for the last few hours on a loop. What a young age to go at too. R.I.P.

Too bad. I met the guy many years ago at a time when we were both living in Barcelona, or at least he spent quite some time there. I had the chance to have a couple of very interesting conversations with him.
His output was still remarkable, a very sad loss.
