The Dandelion Set & Alan Moore - A Thousand Strands

Post by shadowplay » Wed Apr 12, 2017 2:20 am

I know there's a fair bit of interest in retro futurist and hauntological music on OSG and I thought I'd share this remarkable collaboration between Alan Moore and The Dandelion set.

It cycles through all the good stuff taking in pastoral psyche songs, sinister swinging spoken word, incidental jazz, gauzy prog folk, dub, children TV links, lost soundtracks, library cuts, dusty radiophonics, naive singer songwriter...the full tombola...

The Dandelion Set & Alan Moore A Thousand Strands 1975-2015

It's a shame the vinyl is a cut down version (a double a double my kingdom for a double) but you get the full thing as a file with it anyway.

I really recommend the label Buried Treasure, check out REVBJELDE.

Listening to the samples, I thought this album covers an amazing breadth of moods and styles. Epic in the true sense (in a time when everything is "epic"). I especially appreciate the context albums. It's a big help. I plan to use that as a play list. Though familiar with a few, that looks like a great world to explore. The Smile sessions is like mainlining concentrated Beach Boys--distilled and freed from compositional restraints. I can see where that fits in. A Thousand Strands must be a lot more satisfying to listen to when you get the references.

Good to see you back Scott. I'm loving this album, I think it's brilliant and totally fascinating and Mrs S says it's her favourite for some time.

Thank you. I can see why you both like it. I've been listening to my download throughout the day. It's really great music. Clever, complex, and fun. Oh, and it also grooves!
