forming a band in London?
Hey guys,
I'm moving back to the UK from the US, I used to have a band in the UK, we released a bunch records and toured the world and I ended up moving to the US as our stuff was doing better here and Japan. Then my next band although signed to a major was almost entirely US based so I haven't played a gig in Europe in about 8 years. So anyway, I'm out of touch with how things are done in London.
Where do you advertise for band members in London these days? I always just formed bands with mates and I'm going to play with a few people when i get back but don't know how dedicated they'll be so thought I'd maybe try to advertise for any holes that I need to plug. I haven't advertised for band members since using Melody Maker and NME when I was a teenager ha ha! Is Gumtree any good?
Cheers!

Both fine places to find guitarists for blues & classic rock cover bands...
Also Gumtree.

There are Facebook groups for musicians available and wanted in most areas too.

I find that, unless they're well-maintained, all you get is functions bands looking for deps, people promoting their open mics at the local boozer, people looking for bands to play for free ("remember, it is for charity!"), and "I'm a 15 year old guitarist who likes rock and metal looking to start a band".UlricvonCatalyst wrote:There are Facebook groups for musicians available and wanted in most areas too.
Joinmyband isn't perfect, that 15 year old posts on there a lot, but it's better than other places I've looked at.
If you've been a touring pro in the past, aren't there London contacts you could use as a starting point?

Yeah there are so I'm going to ask around and I already have a couple of drummers I'm trying out etc. The thing is though as we all get older everyone has more and more responsibilities so it's harder to get people that can spend a decent amount of time doing music so I thought I'd try a few different avenues.MechaBulletBill wrote:UlricvonCatalyst wrote:

I guess also, at the moment I'm in a total music town and everyone knows everyone else. So if I need to ask someone to play trumpet or Violin or Wurlitzer or whatever it's really easy whereas I've been away for a while now and I'm trying to figure out how I'd find competent musicians. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I must have deleted the wrong quote wrapper. Sorry!
