Truthfully with the list thing, I just can't narrow it down, I keep thinking of records I forgot and I can still think of some even as I type this and the list was ridiculous.

It's a bit rocky for me but the thought is much appreciated. It's kinda betwixt Only Theatre of Pain and Shotgun Wedding.

Applause to Fakeplasticdreams and Shadowplay for some seriously comprehensive compilation--I don't have much new to add but if I really flagellate myself into paring it down my list to 15...er, 17 (what I haven't seen mentioned yet is linked):

Carla Dal Forno - You Know What It's Like
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - Ears
Faten Kanaan - The Botanist & The Archaeologist
Demdike Stare - Wonderland
Tomorrow The Rain Will Fall Upwards - Wreck His Days
Trentemoller - Fixion
David Bowie - Blackstar
Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm - Trance Frendz technically 2015 but the LP came out in 2016
Death in Vegas - Transmission
Marissa Nadler - Strangers
Hannah Peel - Awake But Always Dreaming
Cian Nugent - Night Fiction
Wolf People - Ruins
Troller - Graphic local pick
Dungen - Haxan
G.H. - Screaming Demon Pickups
Ty Segall - Emotional Mugger : might not've quite made the list until I experienced the live madness and something in me head really clicked (or broke)

For once I think naming a standout favorite album might be a possible task...Faten Kanaan - The Botanist & The Archaeologist is that good--one foot in the crystalline minimalist sphere, the other in a courtly neoclassical baroquewave alternate future.

I didn't end up with many of those smaller black discs this year, but my favorite 7" was easily Carla Dal Forno - Fast Moving Cars

You know I can't really argue with that, it's just a brilliant record.

I'm sure I mentioned Koner's project with Andy Mellwig, Porter Ricks. They did a new 12' for the first time in 17 years and IMO it was a bit of a triumphant return, especially the bees.

A1 Shadow Boat

B1 Bay Rouge

B2 Harbour Chart

Have to admit I heard a song off it on the radio first. It's a very good album :)

I should also add Neil Young's 'Peace Trail' to my list.

I'll have to give it a listen, although I wasn't struck on them when I saw them supporting Goat. Mind, that could've been the mix... the actual noise they were making seemed quite good!

I loved all the other Weyes Blood records but I've struggled with that one, it's a bit AOR and I lack the requisite grounding I think to get into it.

I was thinking that anyone who likes Weyes Blood (or even Bat for Lashes or Julia Holter which might be the closest comparison) might enjoy the Susanna (Wallumrød) album 'Triangle' (She often records as Susanna and the Magical Orchestra :-*). It's fairly sprawling but so much of it's terrific. She flits between real Laurel Canyon Joni Mitchell type stuff and incredible multi tracked cosmic hymnals. The record's not got the press traction that her erswhile collaborator Jenny Hval's Blood Bitch album has (one that surprised me by it's omission in this thread) but it's worthy of anyone attention IMO. Beautiful album from a singer with a voice that's like something from mythology.

There's no stream of the whole thing that I can find but it looks to be on Spotify.

Some random tracks;

Susanna 'Burning Sea'

Susanna 'Texture Within'

Susanna 'Sacred Revolution'

Susanna 'Hole'

Susanna 'In The Need Of A Shepherd'

Susanna 'Ebb And Flow'
