Didn't see this posted, reminds me of a bit of a sexy mash between Muslimgauze and Andy Stott.

That's a top tip, I've just bought it and taken a punt on the ATP album. I've got a couple of Meddicine splits one on Clan Destine and one with Mushy but not this one.

That Grazia elpee is a classic.

You no doubt know this but if you don't you might enjoy Googoosh and Nese Karabocek running around with the same riff nicked from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Googoosh - Talagh

Nese Karabocek - Yali Yali

Pjazzmaster; based on some of the music I've seen you liking in the past I think you might be into Ak'chamel - Transmissions from Boshqa.

It kinda walks the line between exotika, where they sound like a Gristlised Gallon Drunk after too much Djinn and Xerox art avant experimentalism, that's getting into David Toop gone fully primitive territory. It's definitely in the wheelhouse of anyone into Heroin in Tahiti and they are also Italian but at the same time it really does sound like it could have been stuck to the cover of an early 80's fanzine and it has this beautiful ugliness, where it's in the gutter but the stars are in clear view.

I can get behind this too... sounds like it was recorded from a torn car speaker onto a heavily overdubbed used C60 using a Nokia 3310 speaker as a mic...in a good way!

I've been really into Abdou El Omari's Maghreb organ seances lately. When I saw the sleeve for Nuits D'ete at first I thought it was a guy in some desert ruins with a Buchla and I was all :w00t:

...when I listened to it, turned out the buchla was an organ, but I was still all :w00t: ; supremely groovy and sample-able, and he almost comes off like a Moroccan Bo Hansson at times.

Abdou El Omari - Afrah El Maghreb
Abdou El Omari - Fatine
Abdou El Omari - Rajaat Laayoun

Moving outside the Arab world to the shifting sands of the western Sahara, the Music from Saharan Cellphones comp is as interesting as a piece of guerrilla anthropology as it is to listen to--as the blurb suggests there's a crazy confluence between traditional regional instrumentation and drum machines, softsynths, and autotune:
Music from Saharan cellphones is a compilation of music collected from memory cards of cellular phones in the Saharan desert.

In much of West Africa, cellphones are are used as all purpose multimedia devices. In lieu of personal computers and high speed internet, the knockoff cellphones house portable music collections, playback songs on tinny built in speakers, and swap files in a very literal peer to peer Bluetooth wireless transfer.

The songs chosen for the compilation were some of the highlights -- music that is immensely popular on the unofficial mp3/cellphone network from Abidjan to Bamako to Algiers, but have limited or no commercial release. They're also songs that tend towards this new world of self production -- Fruity Loops, home studios, synthesizers, and Autotune.

In 2010, various versions of saharan cellphone music were released on cassette. Many of the songs were unlabeled, giving no insight to their mysterious origins. In the past year, the artists have been tracked down to collaborate on a commercial release. As such, 60% of the proceeds go directly to the artists
Group Anmataff - Tinariwen in particular is a banger
Yeli Fuzzo - Abandé

I must admit I do like the soundtrack to Last Temptation, even if I'm not a fan of a Peter Gabriel In any other context.
