Its other claim to fame, of course, is that it was produced by George Martin. His career had a few low points, but that has to be up there with Maxwell's Silver Hammer and getting Celine Dion to do a Beatles cover.mezcalhead wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 12:12 pmFor some reason I had it in my head that it was written by Percy Grainger, but the internet tells me it's actually by some obscure guy from Yorkshire whose other works have been forgotten (perhaps a good thing). Britten nicked it for one of his symphonies, a surprising misstep on his part.UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Tue May 08, 2018 2:43 amAt my age there are few things that make me sprint, but if I hear even a second of that theme playing I'm across the living hitting the off button.

I did not know that, although I knew Martin mainly worked with classical music, at least before the Beatles.

I was going to go on a rant about old dudes that “provide a public service” by parking near the water and blasting their favorite old tunes at top volume while relaxing in their pickup trucks. That rant was going to include Carly Simon. But I’ll cut to the chase, since the interminable hook of this gem was what my wife and I heard as we speed-walked away from said public service provider. Must’ve been the 12” version, cuz we could still hear it 200 yards later, and indeed I still hear it now, after miles of walking and hours of hating.

It's not a shit song, it's actually quite pleasant in a thumbs in your Birmingham bags sort of way but I've had The First Class - Beach Baby in my head since last weekend.
Beach Baby is significant because the intro to the much beloved Since Yesterday was pinched from the section beginning around 3 minutes in.

Bit of an oldie - at the weekend, a friend was telling a story about Perry Farrell pulling out of a gig at the last minute because he'd lost his voice. As a result of this story, I now have the absolute worst Jane's Addiction song stuck in my head:
My Cat's Name is Maceo
My Cat's Name is Maceo

Fucking grim, this bit in Unloved - Guilty of love makes me think of the truly terrible hair*, massive fashion fails and shite music shit show of King - Love and Pride and once it's in there it's not coming out for a few days.
D
*scoring a solid 8 on the Pat Sharp terrible hair scale that was developed by Vidal Sassoon in the 1980's, just above dog boy from the Prodigy but just below Mike Flock of Seagulls (who to be fair could at least play his 'I have a few good songs' joker the other contestants couldn't). Actually King gets added penalty points for having terrible hair but still preening like a Shag that thinks it's a Peacock.

I find Leave the Light On or whatever it's called quite irritating atm along with Shotgun by George Ezra, probably cos both were in constant rotation at a fucking horrible school camping trip two weeks ago. Shame cos I thought George Ezra was okay for a top 40 dude, but Shotgun I can't stand.
Land Of Hope and Glory irritates the hell outta me.
Any overtly royalist/patriotic song does. Anything that gets played at royal engagements anyway...

Yeah, can you feel it baby, yeah can too...
I heard this in the tv show Claws and it won't go away.
Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. The shit song levels are debabtable on this since it's based around the sample of a good song by Loleatta Holloway but...fuck me that rap is shit to the power ten.

Funny that this should crop up. I've had One More Night by Phil Collins stuck in my head since I woke up.
Not good.
Not good.

A good sample does not make up for Marky Mark and his funky bunch. Shitting on great art doesn't improve it.shadowplay wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 1:52 amYeah, can you feel it baby, yeah can too...

Agreed on both fronts. With Marky Mark I was feeling residual glow for how it was used on the TV (playing up how cheesy it is) but in isolation it should be encased in lead.NickD wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 3:57 amYesPorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 2:47 amI used to fucking love that song...when I was 11.shadowplay wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 5:26 am...the truly terrible hair*, massive fashion fails and shite music shit show of King - Love and Pride
