Not knowing his albums, I got a multi-album compilation years ago, and ended up absolutely thrashing this song in particular (now I'm doing it again..)

His self titled record Curtis had a huge impact on me in my youth & continues to this day. It is a perfect blending of music & message, much like Marvin Gaye's What's Goin On. I love how I can here him smiling as he sings. Tracks like We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue, Billy Jack, Do Do Wap is Strong in Here, & Move On Up are absolutely amazing & his live record Curtis/Live! is such a joy to listen to.

I kinda like Curtis Mayfield. Well, to the extent I named my son after him, anyways. I have a large graphic assemblage with lyrics from Move On Up. I have always found him an inspirational figure. So many of his songs are not only beautiful, but profound in the most transparent, lucid way.

I commissioned an interview with him by a friend, the Detroit writer Ben edmonds, who went to see him around the time of New World Order. the man recorded it in sections of a few seconds, due to his paraplegic status... and never once was he self-pitying or anything other than optimistic. what a man.

Amazing artist. I got some old vinyl's from my uncle, including Superfly. I'm a lucky man.
To back up mbene I have to say that Pusherman is my favorite.
