Re: "KISS Guy" jumping into a Foo Fighters set and killing it
you know I regret my tone and apologise to mbene. I had no intention of posting but once there was negative post I stupidly couldn't resist. I'd just delete what I said but then other comments are out context.
I always say I'll stay out the next classic rawk or novelty thread and never heed my own advice. I think I'm a bad fit for this place these days.

Seems like there's still room for all. Maybe just avoid threads with trigger words, like "KISS" or "Foo"shadowplay wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 6:53 amyou know I regret my tone and apologise to mbene. Yikes, seems I've pressed a few buttons. Ironic, given the fact that even being reminded Grohl exists always pushes mine.

I just find it funny how much grohl is hated. He seems pretty benign to me.
But I also enjoy KISS, so.

I don't even like KISS, and this ^ is how I feel about Grohl too.
I don't want much of anything to do with the cultural torch holders of rawk...but if it's going to be somebody, Dave Grohl seems like a fine choice.

I haven't listened to a Foo Fighters song since high school and I don't much care for KISS either, but I can feel that way and still appreciate this guy getting up on stage to rock out with a band he loves. It was a fun moment.

I can imagine hearing KISS or Foo Fighters in a supermarket. I don't like either, but they're pretty inoffensive and easy to tune out. Dave Grohl at least seems like he's a nice guy.

Hey, we all get passionate about our tastes in music. Always room here for that.
I just like to imagine the thrill it was for Yayo (the guitarist) to play with a band he obviously loved. Just insert yourself into that scenario, but with a band you adore whose song you know by heart. I'm sure we all must have one. For me, it would be like J bringing me onstage at a Dino Jr show, Lou bringing me up for a Sebadoh number, or Rob Crowe bringing me up for a Pinback tune. I'd basically fucking die from the excitement.
The only difference is that it wouldn't be in front of 10,000 people (fine by me), and all those guys are basically known for how shy and/or weird they are when it comes to social interactions with fans. That wouldn't be the type of thing they'd do. I think Dave Grohl seemed like a pretty good guy to give a fan that kind of chance and make it a fun experience for him. Probably beats playing Monkey Wrench the same way for the 20,000th time, anyway.

Re: "KISS Guy" jumping into a Foo Fighters set and killing it
I like Grohl as a person. He's a really fucking nice guy with a really crazy hyper sense of humour. I was like that most of my life so I can relate. Also, he was the drummer to the band that got me started with music, so I have that in my mind as well.
Do not like any Foo Fighters music besides the debut LP and only certain songs from other albums.
He works hard and gets shit done. Light hearted music for the most part.
He just wants to rock and have fun. Kurt's death fucked him up pretty bad, he's admitted it in several interviews. He grabbed life by the balls afterwards and it's been working for him.

Well, you know, he's been around long enough that people think it sounds cool to say "I only like his *old* stuff."mackerelmint wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 7:12 amI just find it funny how much grohl is hated. He seems pretty benign to me.
But, well, I kinda only like his old stuff.

I'm not bothered by the music, the Foo Fighters have never really grabbed me, but Dave Grohl does seem like a genuinely nice guy - I saw the story before this thread, thought it was a nice thing to do, but fast forwarded through the performance. I get/agree with people not liking the band, but the person... I'm with Mackerelmint and BoringPostcards.

Don't buy or listen to Foo Fighters, although I do have soft spot for "Monkey Wrench".
But every interview I have seen/read with DG has impressed me.
I was impressed when he "saved" the Neve 8078 mixing desk that was at SOUND CITY and when I have seen him play with other musicians (other than the entire FF band) I don't mind what he brings to the table.

Re: "KISS Guy" jumping into a Foo Fighters set and killing it
i made it about 45 seconds into the video. i think that's as much staged virality as i can take. it's like those videos where they film a piano out in the street and have headlines like "random piano in the street, you wont believe what happens next" and it's never anything along the lines of a giant coming down to earth then lay on the piano like a burlesque dancer while god has a small cry wank and a squirrel manages to play some black midi by himself. because i would not believe that..... but a hipster sitting down and playing a "beautiful" song... but beautiful in the most generic sense of the word.... yeah. i believe that because it was obviously fucking staged.
i hate forced/staged virality. as someone who genuenly loves meme's and remix culture. i think the more staged it is, the worse the meme is.

Re: "KISS Guy" jumping into a Foo Fighters set and killing it
Yeah, I've never heard of Dave Grohl being anything other than a nice guy and he's clearly hardworking and talented, whether one likes his music or not. I'm personally not into the Foo Fighters, but I'm glad it's there for the people that want that and I'm pretty sure the world is big enough to accommodate Dave Grohl and the crew without it threatening anyone.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.
