Stutter/ Cd skipping fx?

Post by SY6655321 » Thu Jul 07, 2016 4:37 pm

Anything out there that can do randomly timed skips at the push of a momentary switch? Ex: press once, 20ms, press again, 1 sec, press again, 40ms.... Looked at the hexe revolver - seems time based. Also saw the mwfx judder - has ALOT of switches....but still uncertain if its capable of doing this. Any info would be much obliged.

The Catalinbread CSIDMAN that just came out was apparently inspired by a skipping discman (hence the name).

I don't own any Catalinbread stuff but they seem to be the ones making the most interesting stuff right now.

i think pretty much any digital delay with the "hold" option (think DD-3 etc.) or the Behringer clone of it?
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

Add this to the list: https://youtu.be/EELMn53-PxQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

AUX buttons can be set to momentary too.

The MASF Raptio is similar but more controllable. Both are cool as heck.

Damn, nailed it again! Not a delay like the catalinbred, but its own thing - with lots of randomness! Decisions, decisions..... Anyway, thanks to all for the mind blowing recommendations.

UPDATE:

So, for anyone interested in skip/stutter/glitch effects… I decided to try cheaper options first before spending a good deal of cash. In my search I came upon this:

I know some will roll their eyes at the sight of a cheap Behringer pedal, but the Hold function is perfect for this kind of effect. I believe the recording time is about 2 seconds max, with no overdubs. The recording of the loop starts when you press down on the pedal and stops when you release, perfect for random quick stutters. The best part is this pedal has a “Level” knob, which is actually a wet/dry mix. You can set it to 100% wet and your original signal is gone, leaving only the skips and glitches. It does suck tone, but if you run it after a buffered pedal its less noticeable. I grabbed one for $30.

Here's mine, rehoused and modded:

"Loop" function on the DigiDelay is nice for this. Instead of being based on the time knob, it's technically just a very short looper but because it records when your foot is depressed (not tap start - tap stop like most loopers) it's easy to get variable length glitches.

I've got a Red Panda Particle and that thing is nothing but glitch city, in a good way. It's expensive enough that I wonder if the value is there--you probably aren't going to slap it on everything--but even so, it's a great pedal for making very strange, unpredictable sounds.
