reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
Hi, everyone.
New guy here. I'm in the process of revamping my pedal setup, and one thing I'm looking to add is a reverb. In a perfect world I would probably just buy a Neunaber WET, but money is pretty tight right now.
I like the small footprint of the HOF Mini, and being able to load different sounds in via the Toneprint app is pretty appealing. I also don't picture needing to change sounds *during* a show, so the limitations are not dealbreakers for me. Just wondering how good it is in the real world.
If anyone has any other good budget recommendations I'd love to hear them. I'm mainly interested in a plate/hallish sound. No spring, modulation, shimmer, etc... needed.
Thanks!

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
I can vouch for the Polara plate. It's more expensive, though. I guess used might be a solution for you? Digitech RV-7 comes to mind, or a used Boss RV. I have no experience with the Hall of Fame mini, though. It might just be what you're looking for. A word of caution: TC Electronic has a bad reputation with their footswitches. They might or might not have improved on them in the meantime, nobody seems to be able to say.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
I thought the HoF mini sounded great. The faffing about with your phone put me off, though.
I also wanted small footprint, but maybe wasn't so concerned with really hi-fi reverb sounds (amp has a nice reverb on it, only really want weird ethereal sounds from a pedal) so I settled on the Mooer SkyVerb.
Knocked up a demo here:

Thanks for the input, guys.
I guess realism isn't that important since it's going in front of a cranked amp with very little clean headroom most of the time.
I picture whatever the reverb ends up being as a "set and forget" thing, so hopefully easy on the switch.

A challenger appears!

To my ears this is very similar tonally to the Neunaber WET. Maybe slightly less bright and more artificial sounding, but it's a *good* kind of artificial. I play in a 3 piece and can see using the hold feature a lot to add some sauce to sparser parts.

I got to play the full sized Hall of Fame yesterday. I liked the plate and hall sounds. The others, not so much. The spring sound was awful.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
Well, reverb has been put on hold for the short for the short term. I decided to upgrade from my glorified daisy chain setup and too-large board to a Pedaltrain Nano+/Cioks DC5.
My Maxon AD80 will have to hold down the time based effects fort for a while longer.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
Got my Nano+ yesterday and mocked everything up on it. Physical size is definitely going to come into play in the final decision as I have very limited available space to work with. I think it's coming down to the HOF Mini and Dr. Scientist Mini Reverberator. The MR has 3 nice sounding plates, but it's also over 3x the price new.
I wish they were still doing this finish.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
After checking my board one more time I think it's gonna be tight to do anything else, even with the absolute slimmest of patch cables. I also may want to get my old DOD 585 analog delay repaired/rehoused and that will take a lot more space than the current Maxon.
Found one seller on ebay that's doing them for $63 shipped. Hopefully it works for me. Will report back.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
I have a TC HOF Mini. I like it. My go-to reverb pedal is the Earthquaker Device Ghost Echo, but takes up more space than I have available a lot of the time. I also use amp reverb. The HOF Mini has come in handy especially because of its size and the fact that you can change the default verb to anything you want from TC's reverb catalog. I liked a number of them well enough. I generally use the HOF Mini as supplemental reverb, but also sounds good with amps that don't have a tank.
My two cents....good luck!

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
That's encouraging. This will mostly be used at a low mix level just to fill things out a bit. It will be my only reverb, but it's not a big part of the sound.
Looking forward to fooling around with it.

Re: reverb shopping - TC HOF Mini?
honestly i DO think it'd be great to have on to just "add a little something" to your signal- or if you have a wilder algorithm but with the mix set low.
the reason i got rid of my original HOF after just having it for a week was b/c he sounded way too subtle for me.
