no idea which fuzz I need
I know that I want/need a fuzz pedal, but really have no idea which one. The only clue I have is that one of my favorite guitarists (Rick Miller from Southern Culture on the Skids) uses a Frantone Peach Fuzz, although I honestly couldn't even tell you which tracks he uses it on. The Peach Fuzz is a bit more than I'd like to spend, and pretty hard to track down anyway. Is there anything else that's similar?

what kind of guitar/amp combo are you working with? have you heard any demos of the peach fuzz? what kind of music do you mainly play and what is your style? there aren't many fuzzes that are "one size fits all."

if you something similarly gnarly and still controllable, take a look at the devi ever hyperion. you can find them for $100 all day.

Ah, right. So I guess I play a combination of surf, alt country and garage rock. My amp is a Reverend Kingsnake which has a US mode (Fendery), a UK mode (Marshall/Vox-y) and a Lo-Fi mode (Supro-y) so it's pretty versatile, and my main guitars have lipstick tubes and filtertron style pickups.

That Frantone Peach Fuzz seems to be a Big Muff clone? Current production EHX Big Muffs are very cheap and easy to find. You have them in sizes Original Big Box, Little and Nano. I recommend the Nano.

take a look at the ehx satisfaction. it is basically a maestro fuzztone clone, which would fit well with the retro influenced stuff you do. they can found for stupid cheap used.

Wasn't the Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz (v1) a clone of the Peach Fuzz? I thought that was why they went so quickly to a v2. Not sure how it compares, but I think they're still way under $100 if you can find one.

Re: no idea which fuzz I need
The Peach Fuzz is very similar to an op-amp Muff, I think. Plenty of clones floating around - the Stomp Under Foot Pumpkin Pi, for example: http://www.stompunderfoot.com/pumpkin-pi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And Danelectro cloned the Peach Fuzz, too, with the Cool Cat Fuzz. You might find one of those on the cheap.
But given you say you mainly play surf, alt-country and garage rock, are you sure a Muff is what you need? RuffiansFC's suggestion of something like the Satisfaction Fuzz might be a better fit.

I may need more than one fuzz pedal. I'm really digging this Nocturne Seltzerado, but am also liking some others i'm finding.

Re: no idea which fuzz I need
if you aren't careful, you can find yourself with tons of fuzz. if you are just starting, think of what you are playing. since what you are playing music influenced by stuff from the mid-60s, do some research on fuzzes used back then. since that is when fuzz effects first came into fruition, pedals from that time are going to have two things in common: simple design and germanium transistors. the main boxes at the time were the US's Maestro Fuzztone and the UK's MKI Tone Bender. everything else was a variation on a theme or a straight copy. look at some reissues, clones, and pedals inspired by these designs as a start.

The v1 Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz is an excellent sounding pedal. Sometimes I take my Earthbound Audio 71 Supercollider off the board because the Dano has a more gnarly texture to it.

Re: no idea which fuzz I need
The Basic Audio Scarab is a good choice for a beginner fuzz as it can cop a lot of different 60s style fuzz tones. Their Gnarly is another good choice if you want something less versatile and more dynamic.
