NPD: 80s Maxtone Super Delay (DM-2 clone) HELP?

Post by Pacafeliz » Tue Jul 01, 2014 1:42 pm

picked this up (in original box!) for cheap and cuz it intrigued me. it all seems to be pretty much a dead-on Boss DM-2 clone!

i've also seen this identical pedal under the Denio brand, which supposedly is MIJ. mine has Taiwan on the box.
the Analog Mike book says "there's no way Boss didn't make these", so who knows.

the analog delay is delicious, but i get some subtile (like when you turn on a TV) squealing/chime when i pass the delay lenght pot past 12:00, any ideas how to fix this?

Nice score!

Sounds really cool. I'm sure boss did a bunch of oem pedals. Would love to see a circuit board.
Re: the squeal - is it like how some bbd delays sound if it's not calibrated properly? I've had a few that whined and chirped but only at the longest delay times.

thanks. by calibrated you mean i might have to move/turn the little adjustment pot/thingy on the board?

hmm... i realized that when i take the guts outta the metal box the chime gets lower, and in some positions it almos does some sorta feedback or something. maybe would be good to re-house it?
the LED might not be original and i need to re-solder the bulb cuz it broke off on one "leg" when i took it out.

ok here's some pics!

WOW!
:-* :-* :-*
Looks like a DM-3 based on the knob configuration and the MN3205 chip. Though the late DM-2 has the same chip. That "AD-80" is puzzling. :wtf:

So cool. No idea if the noise is a grounding problem or something more serious. The trim pot could have been messed with. Surprised I'm not seeing more trim pots actually. Resistors are cheaper I guess.

Maybe try putting it back together nice and neat and see how your noise is. NEVER rehouse that baby. It's perfect as it is!

Might be an Ibanez AD-80 clone in a Boss enclosure. The paint matches and it uses the same MN3205 chips:

PS: what version is your OD-1?
