Shiva fuzz master volume... one touchy knob?
Anybody out there love their Shiva but wish the volume knob wasn't so fast to go WAY too loud?? It goes from silent to way over unity gain pretty quick. I am terrified I will forget to check it one day and blow up my vibrolux because the shiva know got bumped clockwise in my pedalboard bag. Anyone know of a fix / mod ? Different pot or something? I asked Ben at Dwarfcraft and await his reply, I'll post it when I get it.

My OCD clone is like this. After 7 o'clock it's way, way too loud.
It's a simple pot change apparently. I guess it'll be the same for you.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Yeah I would think so. I just worry that the type of pot in there has something to do with the circuit/tone. If not yeah that would be a sweet and easy fix!

The pot's taper could be the issue - linear rather than audio or vice-versa. Taper shouldn't affect tone, value will.doctorock78 wrote:Yeah I would think so. I just worry that the type of pot in there has something to do with the circuit/tone. If not yeah that would be a sweet and easy fix!
So I pretend there aren't ten strings tied to all ten of my fingers.

this. i forget which way around it was but it sounds like the same problem/taper preference the fender hot rod amps had.null.fuzz wrote:The pot's taper could be the issue - linear rather than audio or vice-versa. Still waiting to hear from Dwarfcraft. I would think this is something they considered during testing and decided there was no other way... But I'm hoping to be wrong and that there's a fix.

Bump y'all. I still want to use Shiva in my live rig, but the fear of the knob keeps it in the drawer at home...

I guess the question remains: Is the volume pot linear?

Hey dudes.
Sorry, we must have missed your email. For quite a while we used all linear pots, which is why the volume gets so loud so fast. (depending on your settings, of course)
We've switched to audio taper for volume pots because of customer requests. Although, in my experience there's a huge amount of useless rotation on any distortion's volume pot. With Audio taper, you're below unity sometimes up to or even past 12 o' clock. then there's the sweet spot where you actually get louder, and then very quickly you are on to "too loud." with a linear taper, you get to the sweet spot much sooner, but you still have all that useless rotation on either side.
But like I said, we went to audio taper, because that's how most other pedals are. Downside is it makes it way easier for people to have their "dirty loud exciting" sound quieter than their clean.
If we haven't changed the pot in your shiva yet, send me a PM, and we can do that, no prob!

Just pulled my Shiva Fuzz out of the archive yesterday for a rehearsal. Dwarfcraft you have made such a wonderfully destructive device there. I forgot how rad it is. SHIVAAAAAAA
