MXR-R117 FLANGER
Anyone has never tried this pedal?
I'm not a great fan of flanger and phaser but this seems very interesting sounding especially for the manual setting, if you turn it completely counterclockwise there's no sweep and you can fix your setting in a certain phase, plus if you mess with the regenaration knob you can get some strange sounds like short delays and something like the third one that you can listen in their site

Re: MXR-R117 FLANGER
Yeh, this is one I use. I think its the best flanger pedal ever made..Ive tried and owned many (BF-1 BF-2 BF-3, electro harmonix etc)..but this is king..tonally great, very natural sounding and capable of a lot of different sounds. And used by John Mcgeoch, my favourite ever guitarist (magazine, Siouxsie and the banshees, PIL)...
Check: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd5YEbY4OUo he has the pedal on a stand in front of him

Talking about powering i know that it run two 9V battery, but maybe the godlike superpump adaptor could work well..eggwheat wrote: I should add i use the original mains powered one with no led, i dont know what these re-issues are like.

Re: MXR-R117 FLANGER
also the in and out jacks are on the same side of the pedal on a original so all things considered the new ones must have been fairly heavily re-designed

this one is good, I think the ADA is better.

I've heard of the ADA as one of the greatest flanger ever made, but on harmony central the mxr seems even better...

I like my Boss HF-2 Hi-Band Flanger, but I don't really use flange a lot, I got it because it's pretty unique and it's good for when I want to play some Seventeen Seconds era Cure.

Re: MXR-R117 FLANGER
Really? I hear Smith used a BF-2. The Hi-Band Flanger only affects the higher frequencies so it's a lot more subtle, I like it, but as I say I rarely use flange.

Has anybody here used the Foxrox TZF Paradox Flanger? It gets the 60s studio flanging sound, apparently... sounds like a useful thing to have!
Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

Re: MXR-R117 FLANGER
The BF-2 didnt come out till June 1980 seventeen seconds came out in April 1980 :) the MXR was a staple of the banshees guitarists, smith played for them during 79 and took the flanger with him. Although he has used the BF-2 live for years.
The difference between a BF2 and the MXR is loads. Tonally so much better! The BF sounds nasal in comparison.

Re: MXR-R117 FLANGER
Ahh ok, thanks for clearing that up. The HF-2 isn't nasally, it's just ever so slightly noisy when you're not playing but I'm not complaining, it's teh vintagez afterall. Well, it's older than me anyway.
