Anyone know where to point me for examples of RE-201 Space Echo?

Everyone needs a stompbox.

Anyone know where to point me for examples of RE-201 Space Echo?

Post by glimmertwin » Fri Mar 02, 2007 1:31 pm

...I know there are tons of these floating around and I suspect quite a few offseters here have one too.  Anyone know of some of sound clips on the web they could point me to for examples - either examples of tracks from famous artists, or even your own recordings/band project.  Only thing I found was a myspace entry for re201 that has a couple of very short spaceship sounds recorded to show an example.

...I never really paid much attention to these as I have a few delay pedals and figured I was covered on that front for performance, but now that I am doing more recording with our band I am considering picking up a 201(or maybe a 301 or 501 if the price is right) just to add a little warmth and depth to certain vocals, drums, and of course the guitar.  Any suggestions?

I think Radiohead's 'Subterranean Homesick Alien' is a perfect example.

the guy who played synth and organ in my band ellis the vacuumchild used a RE-201 all the time, mostly to warm up the sound and give it some ambience. i think it´s most apparent on the track "decapitation spree".

it´s quite low in the mix though...

Hey that sounds really great.  Cool music!

The first several seconds of "when the going gets..." reminds me of Orange Juice's "Falling and Laughing" which is an awesome song.

I think the long echoes on King Tubby's dub stuff are Space Echo, at least on the 70s albums .. gives an idea of what they're capable of when pushed.
Distance-crunching honcho with echo unit.

yeah, king tubby was the reason for mattias (my bandmate) getting a space echo in the first place.

oh and thanks for the ellis-love guys :)
we´ll probably get back together eventually... just don´t know when.
