Why do I hear a popping sound when switching some effects on?

Everyone needs a stompbox.

Why do I hear a popping sound when switching some effects on?

Post by Jay » Fri Jan 26, 2007 1:58 pm

Can someone more knowledgeable with effects/repairs tell me why a number of my pedals developed the annoying habit of making a "pop" every time the switch is engaged?  I don't think it's a bad switch because in one case I changed the switch making no difference in the amount of popping heard.

I've heard that switching the pedal on and off a few times before using it helps

Great!  This gives me a good basis to at least go in and do some testing.  And hopefully a few of these can be fixed as the only reason I don't use any of them anymore is because of the "box pop."

Well, soldering a resistor off the input to ground in my Yardbox totally did the trick.  No more annoying pops!  Thanks again for the link.
