Single neo 15” and a horn. 104 dB and 35 pounds. 8) It’s also 4 ohm, so it gets a little more out of the amp.

Hopefully it will be loud enough for the smaller shows we tend to play.

Ah, I was seeing the horn in the corner and thought it was a 4x10". I love 15" speakers for bass. Hell, I love them for guitar too. Haha.

Very nice - cool bass to boot!

I don’t doubt that setup should do fine in smaller venues. What is the power output of the amp & handling rating for the cab @ 4 ohms?

I don’t think I’ve listed this before, and don’t have a host to be able to post pics. Which is okay, my boards look like hell anyway because I’ve been swapping something out or around continually. Cables everywhere. But it’s starting to stay static lately.

Anyway, on my smaller board (that I’ll use to play out - starting one day, hopefully) is:

Keeley Black Glass OC44 fuzz > VFE White Horse comp > VFE Rocket EQ > Radial Switchbone splitter. Each signal goes into a midi switched Decibel 11 Pedal Pallette extender, which are controlled by a DB11 Pedal Pallette or a Tech 21 Mini Mongoose.

Extender A:
TWA Little Dipper (autowah/mu) > Keeley Realizer reverb (Soft Focus setting) & Xotic EP booster > Barber BUSS (Burn Unit side) > 1 side of Meris Polymoon delay > one side of Boss DC-2w (SDD320 mode, always on) -> Vox AC4

Extender B:
Hologram Infinite Jets > Barber Gain Changer (LTD side) > Keeley Bubbletron > other side of the Polymoon > other side of Boss DC-2w (SDD320 mode, always on) -> Bugera T5 & 12” Greenback.

(Edited)

4 main settings are Polymoon alone; Realizer & Infinite Jets alone; Little Dipper & GC with Polymoon, BUSS & GC with Polymoon.

More combinations are possible and probably already programmed into the extenders, but I’ve moved things around so many times, no telling what they’re programmed to anymore beyond the first 4 settings.

The 200W rating on the 400RB is at 4 ohms. Power handling on the cab is 600 watts IIRC. Took it to practice recently and it had no trouble keeping up.

I play a P in my band. The Coronado is more of a dinkin’ around at home bass. I love it though. It’s super plunky and fun to play.

I'm a bit torn on whether or not to keep the AC4. It was a sort of 'holy grail deal' eBay find that I wasn't necessarily seeking out or expecting to buy--the seller seemed older and not very tech-literate in the few messages we exchanged, and judging by the price it was listed for, I think he was confusing it with one of the recent AC4C1-12 amps that sell for about $200 used.

It's fairly a quiet amp even for ~4 watts; I'm able to crank it neigh to max volume in my duplex apartment without the police paying a friendly visit, if that says anything about volume levels. Certainly not capable of gigging volumes without some mic/PA help.

In spite of having a very typical Vox pairing of an EF86 preamp feeding into an EL84 power section, it doesn't sound as "Voxy" as I would have expected. To get any of the Vox snap and jangle, the tone control needs to be maxed, and the volume has to be cranked to at least 3 o'clock or so...the rest of the volume sweep sounds fairly dull, dark, and uninspiring to be honest--I'm tempted to take it to the tech and see if he can work some magic with cap values, etc to brighten it up a bit. Otherwise, my Ampeg Reverberocket 2, despite being a much larger amp (~18-22 watts) is far more practical as an apartment rig, as it sounds quite good at low volumes and has enough headroom that I can use my echolette for tube saturation and breakup when I want it...I've also played with Greenbacks in all my amps for so long that any other speaker breakup pattern feels a bit foreign to me.

That being said, with all knobs cranked to 11, the AC4 sounds pretty glorious. Not at all as boxy as one would expect such a small amp with an 8" speaker to sound. Not quite the top boost zing the aesthetics might suggest, but a bright, complex grind all its own. Slamming it even further with a Broadcast or SHO/SD 2-in-1 helps to brighten it up a mite further and can get you into fuzz territory. One of the few amps I've spent any time with that I've preferred to play totally dry, sans verb or echo.

TL;DR: sounds great driven, but precious little headroom and sounds pretty average until you really open the knobs up. Great one trick pony studio tool; not so sure how I'd feel about one as a main/only amp.

Edit: I should mention that the original ELAC speaker was fucked beyond repair (see giant gash in grille cloth), so it has a replacement Weber Blue Pup 8--not sure how differently it would play with the original speaker.

That seems like a nice amp. I have a few of the 4s, the nicest is an AC4C1 limited (blue/cream) with a 10, that I replaced with a Weber Silver and swapped out tubes (JJ 12AT7 & Tung Sol 12AX7, and a Mullard EL84).

The others are an AC4TV 10” and 2 AC4TV 12” mini stacks, but all of those only have volume and tone, and kind of crappy attenuators. I bought other attenuators for the mini stacks, and changed out the tubes and speakers (with Greenbacks) on those as well.

They’re not monsters my any means, but mine gets pretty furious on about halfway (gain and volume). It’s got a volume ceiling, but it sounds really good at the volumes it reaches. It does need to be opened up a lot, tho, for a really good sound. I think it would be fine for a small coffee shop type thing, but it will never keep up with real drums without a mic.

I replaced the UK Greenback in my matching AC15 with a Celestion Blue - it’s definitely a specific sound, geared towards a higher end. It could be something that you just don’t care for. Weber may make something in the 8” variety that comes closer to the geeen, or maybe a silver. I’d still hold on to the blue tho, personally. Its sound may grow on you later.

They’re cool little amps, very convenient and can sound really good. I hated to sell another one of the 10’s I had, but I didn’t need it anymore once I bought the 2-tone, and forced myself to sell it.

It may be worth trying other tubes and maybe another speaker to see if it gels with you any better, if you’re willing to spend the money.

Playing around with these today. The pedal in the middle is a Hudson Broadcast clone. Using the Boss SY-1 in Sequencer mode, it's pretty wild :w00t:
