That's the most amazing description I've ever heard :D Have any recordings of that?
at the moment? no. all my amps are sitting in my friends house in kirkcauldy (other side of scotland) and i had to sell my bigger cabs before the move. but ive promised myself when i get some money, im gonna get/build some more big cabs.

Big cabs pretty much where it's at for bass? I've always lusted over one of those 8X10 Ampeg cabs....

Have you ever played one of those old 2x15 Ampeg cabs where the speakers are angled rearward to actually face each other? Had the same width as the 810 cab, but was much deeper to accommodate the almost-sideways 15s. The technical rationale is that the waves from both speakers would end up in phase with each other, and then have to bounce off multiple angled baffles before being reflected forward (above and below the speakers), giving the long waves the distance they need to fully form before exiting the cab. Designed for an era when bands would be playing stadiums and outdoor festivals without the benefit of a good house PA.

It weighed more than the 810, had a bigger footprint than the 810, wouldn't fit in anybody's car, and was just impractically loud. Standing 5 feet in front of it, you could barely hear yourself -- but you were shaking drinks off tables in the back of the club, and people two blocks away were calling the cops. It looked awesome on stage next to the 810, but was just too damn loud.

i've always thought big cabs are one of those things you have to justify to yourself first. it's fine if you have a car big enough but otherwise, no.

VERY nice! That setup is ridiculous!!

How's the Soothsayer with bass?
Further to that... How's the Xotic comp work for you with lows? I'm mostly sold on one for guitar but would be a bonus to use it for bass too.
Until I got the Ego a month or so ago, it's been my primary bass compressor. I'm generally pretty mild w/ compression and prefer to blend it fairly lightly. It seems to do the job for me so far providing additional sustain and leveling out the output a bit in a very natural sounding way to my ears. I think it tightens the low end up a bit (I'm of the impression the compression ratio slopes a bit towards the low end) but that seems to be a good thing for me so far w/ the basses and amps I've used it w/. It doesn't seem to significantly shelf off any lows to me though like the Keeley C4 I was using before I got the SP. The simplicity might be kinda limiting if you're looking to run the blend and/or ratio high and rely more heavily on the compressed signal.

I'm currently debating grabbing one of the Empress comps for a bigger bass board or digging out my old dbx 1066 from the studio rack and get a 4U rack case for it, a head, and a power conditioner. I never particularly liked the 1066 for mixing bass, but I don't think I've ever tried playing through it live into an amp.

i've found myself running dirt with bass, you need 2 amps. even blends dont sound right. so for a few years i used my bassman, had a clean going to one channel and had the dirt going to another but it did not quite sound right. lately however, ive been using the bassman taking the dirty, jumping channels, using output 2 on the normal channel, sending that into an old PA head which also gets a clean/dirty signal. it's confusing but sounds like god slamming his car door.
Yeah, my limited experience has suggested that's probably the truth for me as well. It's kinda how I wound up w/ the OB1, it seemed like the most likely and attainable/livable candidate in bass amp land I was able to come up w/ to take the place of the OR50 for the dirty amp of the full rig but so far it seems to get a little too fuzzy for my tastes when dialing up its gain past mild/moderate drive. I really like the mildly driven and clean sounds out of it, it seems like it should have more than enough volume for me, and it's a joy to play through. I probably ought to focus on the biamp setup for the big board to get the heavier OD sounds I want out of it.

And a young enough body :D I would so love to have an 8x10 or even a 6x10 but I don't think I'd ever want to load/unload one into the back of a hatchback again.

I think it'd be cool for you to run a y-splitter for your input signal, and then run two essentially separate paths, for your parallel. If you dig the amp setups, that would be a cool way to do it. Kinda like a wet-dry rig, but have dirt on one (or both) and delay on one only.
I agree, I think I'm gonna go that route. I was playing around a little w/ the Data Corrupter feeding the OB1 on one side of the Keymaster and the Arpanoid feeding the PF50T on the other and it was semi-mind altering. Playing the crossfade between them w/ the expression pedal is good for a big ass smile too ;D :freako:

Also no pictures but

King Of Tone Mel9 DMM

This is my current set up (it might change) for a carol concert I find myself doing.

Just run through the set but the high point from a players pov was Silent Night with guitar and flute blended with a slow attack and some memoryman goodness going on at about 300ms with vibrato.

If Mogwai ever did a carol concert it would sound like this and IMHO thats not a bad thing.

Well that killed the thread...

Updated set up for the carol concert

Les Paul
King of Tone
Friedman BE
Fulltone Trem
Red Panda Context reverb
Bad Cat Black Cat 30

Sounded great on Monday and the sound engineer kept turning down the other guitarist.

Forgot to get a picture, but I ordered a 3 Leaf Audio Octabvre Mini a week or two ago and it finally came. I haven't finished my bass, but it's for the bass rig and I wanted to try it out.

Tele > EQD The Warden > 3 Leaf Audio Octabvre Mini > SS/BS Mini > Volume (Dunlop DVP4) > EQD Night Wire > EQD Space Spiral (borrowed from my guitar board as I haven't bought the EQD Disaster Transport Sr yet) > Laney Cub 12R.

Sounded REAL good. I've never played a Boss OC-2, but the Octabvre sounds really close from the demos I've heard. Sounds KILLER with distortion.
