All those tracks are pure gold.
David, he's got a new thing he's been working on called "4 Stones" which is just bonkers, a really expansive trance masterpiece, dare I say it an almost "motorik" 10 minute long composition that sounds like he's just improvising until you realise he does it the same every night. I can't play the same thing the same twice in a row. Great to get an insight into his process too, almost at odds with most musicians, gets the sound right at source and records straight to a stereo field recorder, no overdubs or edits, all about the performance. Doesn't sit for hours staring at waveforms. A quite superb talent.

That sounds quite pleasant!
The thing with Dean is that if you told me what he did without me hearing it I'd probably be running in the opposite direction pretty fast. Few folk playing solo instrumentals with an electric make any sort of record/music I'd want to hear, most seem to misplace the music part and substitute guitar playing in it's place. Dean brings the music and that's pretty amazing to me, he's the polar opposite of geetar dude wank for other geetar dudes who wank, make of that what you will.

Agreed. I think the secret with him is that he doesn't listen to any guitar music, he's obsessed with grime, jungle and musique concrète more than anything, and just sees the guitar as a means to an end, he only owns one battered Tele, he just thinks in musical terms rather than guitar terms. It put my own playing into perspective, very humbling.shadowplay wrote: The thing with Dean is that if you told me what he did without me hearing it I'd probably be running in the opposite direction pretty fast. Anyway sorry for derailing the thread. I should probably post a pic of Dean's setup, its immense!

Re: Setup of the day
Dean's set was very cinematic. I think I said to you that I could hear his music as the score to some atmospheric arthouse film. If I was a filmmaker and I heard that sound, I'd want to do a film just to have Dean's music in it.
I didn't make the connection in my head until today. Your firebird is quite unusual, and I keep seeing Charles Moothart from Fuzz and CFM with one very similar. It's funny because his playing on the second Fuzz album sounds a bit like Wolf People at times. But then, I expect you can tell me exactly which 1970s Hungarian psych band these West coast revivalists are ripping off!
(Interview has been submitted, should be up soon. I'm glad you liked the review, I wish I'd done it a bit differently but I try not to think too much about them once they're done because there's always another one to do! Eh, I'll just blame the editor!)

Temporary portable home studio. I could carry all of this by hand if need be, and need will be, since we are moving this week. The little Orange is the only amp I own at the moment, but it records surprisingly well for a 4.5" speaker.

My go-to guitars are Silvertone 1303/U2 these days, but I pulled out my MIJ JM for the first time in a while last night.
Board is TU-2>SolidGoldFX Zeta>Madbean Moar>Maxon AD-80>Catalinbread Talisman powered by a Ciocks DC5.

Re: Setup of the day
The tweed-look one is an open back Carvin 4x10 from the late 90's. The black one is an open back EarCandy 1x12. I usually use the EarCandy, but I made some tweaks to mute the rattling handle on the Carvin (fixed!), so I've been testing it out.s_mcsleazy wrote:what is that cab?marqueemoon wrote:My go-to guitars are Silvertone 1303/U2 these days, but I pulled out my MIJ JM for the first time in a while last night.
