You're not far offSecondary Tungsten (Scrap)
Scrap recycling is an important factor in the worlds tungsten supply. It is estimated that today some 30 % is recycled (see flow chart below), and the tungsten processing industry is able to treat almost every kind of tungsten-containing scrap and waste to recover tungsten, and, if present, other valuable constituents. Tungsten scrap due to its high tungsten content in comparison to ore is a very valuable raw material.
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

I have no idea. You're probably right. Lightbulbs are still cheap!

I missed this whole thread while in Nashville.
Interesting points about light bulbs.

Fuck yeah, like Will Ray. Use it as a slide. *StevenO wrote:Is that where you get your tone from?RumorsOFsurF wrote: My wedding ring is made from Tungsten Carbide....It's a heavy mother, too!

Re: Fender outboard reverb question...do you need to swap tubes?
For what it's worth, I actually A/B-ed a original '63 Reverb unit with my late 90ties RI. My RI has the NOS 6K6 and some old 12Ax/At7 tebus, rest is stock.
I used a Fender Dual and Single Showman with a Jazzmaster and a Jaguar. (Kind of tried all gear)
So, what can I say;
The RI is very, very close to the original. No doubt about it. Can't comment on using a 6V6 since I never tried it in an RI.
The RI tends to have a little more treble, as already pointed out by others. But apart from that, the differences are very subtle.
The typical 666 setting (surfers choice) is almost identical. Just that the RI is a tad more treblier, but roll of some tone and you'll be fine.
Even a stock MIJ/CIJ JM or Jag sound fab with the RI unit.
I used my RI unit for over 5 years now, gigging with it regulary. I only had to solder the reverb input on the pan again after we cleared the stage a bit too fast and I accidently bumped it against a wall. But no trouble whatsoever. I can't say the original sounds "warmer" "better" "more authentic" or whatsoever. I think Fender did a great job on those RI reverb units. I only think they are to expensive. I don't know what the price for a unit is in the US but here on the other side of the pond the new list/shop pice is rediculous.
FWIW, Paul Johnson (of The Belairs) used my RI reverb unit while he played a show with the Surfaris while on a EU tour. He was pleased by it.
Although, there are great alternatives to a Fender Reverb (Danelectro Spring King, Little Laneai reverb, EH Holy and Holier Grail) nothing beats the real thing imho.
But if you are not a "surfer" who likes all his tonez do be drowned in reverb, the alternatives are more then good enough.
The reverb on a BF or SF Twin reverb loaded with the JBL 120 is also great imo....
