I'll have a dig around on my computer and see what I can find. This is exactly the sort of thing I can geek over!!
There are definitely worse things! Right?!

Haha!!
Totally!
Ok, here's a photo of the AD900 before the one I have now (aka "the second one I ever had")
Similar style serial to the one I have now...
Unfortunately I don't have a close-up of my first ever one (aka "the first one I ever had")
But it looks like it had a similar sticker, but it was ripped off, for some reason...

I think it had the foam back applied over it, then later the pad was remove.
I love these delays! Wish I had tried them sooner.

Alas I can't find my serial numbers! What is wrong with me?!
But i have seen and owned both older and newer serial system versions.

Yes, that would make sense...the first one I had was my favourite...the next two, I had to mess with the trim pots a bit...I got them to sound great pretty easily though!

I too had to mess with the trip pots (with some handy tips from zhivago) and now it's tip top.

My background has been with all the old, shorter analog delays mainly. But I have to say, now owning the AD900 and AD999, for as cheap as they are right now, I really can’t come up with a reason why I would choose a DM2/3, AD9/80, etc over one. They are fantastic pedals.

And this is why it was so easy to pare down to just my 900 and DMM. Really glad you're enjoying these!
Now I just need to get a 999!!

The problem is, I CAN'T pare down! I was even looking at AD10s
If it weren't for my Moog MF104Z, I would be wanting a Deluxe Memory Man (again). The external effects loop on the MF-104Z makes it really versatile. Tape-ish tones? Put the delay time switch to short and stick a vibrato pedal in the loop (like the cheap Behringer that I use). Pseudo DMM sounds?? Use something like Small Clone in the loop on the long delay setting.
I really love the 900/999s though. They are no frills (no modulation, etc) but just very good at what they do. I think you would be really pleased with a 999 if you get one.

Slippery slope! I had so many analog delays at one point.
You forgot to add the Boss DM-2w - its 600ms and smoooth.
Not sure how it stacks up against the Maxons but I'll bet its in the ballpark.
Man, if only I could've gotten on the MF-104z train years ago. Same with the SIB Echo Drive. But the Maxons are so simple and great! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a good price on a 999.

Really? I know you've got a lot of experience with lots of different delays so it's interesting to hear that you rate the AD-900 so highly. Maybe I've got a particularly great sounding AD-80 / a poor sounding AD-900 but I'd take the AD-80 any day. I love the AD-80's slight ringing at almost max (stock) time settings, and with the range extended with the trimpots there are a world of crazy sounds in it at longer times. The AD-80 is also my favourite delay that's not an RE-201 for rhythmic stuff at medium settings.
Different strokes and all that I suppose.

To put it another way, I can't think of a reason why I would exclude the 900/999 from the running with the others. The tones hold right up to them. The 900/999 does have the advantage as far as delay time goes though. Otherwise, I find all of the above most excellent in their own ways. They all have their particular strengths and any one could prove superior in a given situation.
Of course my solution is to keep them all! I’ll never part with the DM2/3, or AD9/80. They are permanent installations in my collection.

Yeah, I'd agree with that: the AD-900 (and presumably the 999) can hold its own in that kind of company.
I really need to try a DM-2/3, should I ever find one.

They are great ones, too. The tone is distinctly different from the Maxon/ Ibanez camp. I think every analog delay junkie should have them in their collection

Unearthing this now historic thread.
I finally caved and bought an AD-999 after several years of deliberation.
Hopefully this one arrives over the weekend. Eager to hear how it sounds and feels compared to my trusty AD-900. I've been rekindling my affection for pink Maxon delays lately, spotted one for a relatively good deal and had to take it.
I also recently scored a RI AD-80 a few weeks ago for a a
really good price
but haven't had much time with it yet. Crazy after all these years and so many different analog delays I've never owned that one either.
