I can't believe the Nobels ODR-1...

Is the new KLON :fp:

I really like the modern version I have made by Nordland. It's so great.

Aren't they still making them the same as they always have? I've had one in my Reverb want list for a couple years, and it's barely over $100...

The new ones have a bass cut switch which AFAIK just makes it a bit more flexible. I think I paid £79 for mine used and mint, and I think they are made in China now, not Germany.

An original might be a bit more desirable, but that reverb listing is bizarre, even if it was off Steve Cropper’s board (if he has one)!

Yeah, i bought into the hype as well. Tried the new one with the bass cut, and then the Wampler Belle. And i must say the Nordland sounds awfully tempting with all the options, but for me the Nobel only worked with certain settings and guitars. Isn't the Nordland made by the original creator of the OD-1 circuit? That's pretty cool.

I guess the Klons are too out of reach now, so people are going for the lower hanging fruit. Like when people started going for JMs and Jags?

I noticed you mentioned the Nordland in another post, Mike, and was gunna ask you about it. The C or the CS?

I just got a Wampler Belle and really love it. It fixed everything I didn't like about the ODR-1 Mini, which is to say, a bass knob. I like having a knob for the bass rather than a switch like the newer ODR-1s. My only wish is that the belle had a full size enclosure, because I hate mini pedals for no rational reason.

Nah, I think some people have just lost their minds with collecting / speculating on objects...
With actual instruments it makes a little sense to me, but I don't think that just because an instrument is vintage means it's automatically worth the same top-dollar as another made the same year; two different people can have two completely different opinions on two guitars that came off the same assembly line one after another... But that's not usually what prices tags on these sort of things are really about, most of the time it's just people riding hype trains to make more profit on an object than the last person they bought it from.

It's especially silly to me in regards to pedals though. Circuits are easy to reproduce and it's actually extremely rare that a specific out of production diode or transistor is responsible for an unreproducible "magical" characteristic.

In my opinion anyways.

Jack

I have the CS I think? The one with the 3 band EQ, not the “Spectrum”. I got it in a trade with member smalltownsongs. I’m not sure if I’d slap down $325+ for one but I do love it.

I love the circuit. The first time I heard it was when I tried the Tone Freak Azalea prototype back in 2016? Unfortunately Derek stopped making them before I could get one.

Another one to check out is the Karma ODR-10. It’s a straight copy, no bass cut. It’s cheaper than the Nordland.

I’ll second the Karma ODR-10 as being a great option. That’s the one I have on my board currently and I quite like it (has a very nice “feel” and responds to picking dynamics quite well). Been awhile since I played an original one, but it compares favorably from what I remember and is much cheaper. I didn’t really care for the reissue (mini or bass cut versions)…felt a bit stiff for whatever reason to me.

That's exactly where i'm at with it. Good dude, though. Maybe he's got another lying about haha Paging Dr. Kris! :D

How does it fit the hole in your set up? I always found unless i played it nashville (tele into bell'd Fender amp) it collapsed more than crushed, if that makes sense. But admittedly when it worked, it really worked! So i'm curious.

It’s the only dirt on my board right now. We don’t use a lot of gain in my band. I’m just using it to simulate a semi cranked amp. It just sounds more natural than a tube screamer. Sometimes I prefer the BD-2 or the OD-3 depending on the amp. I’m using a heavily modded ‘67 Bassman atm (bass channel is re-voiced for guitar)

ok well.... my basic stock BD-2 just replaced the Nordland on my board. It just works better with my Bassman. The Nordland worked better with the Deluxe Reverb.

This is what I found. Though it felt natural and sounded so good, it rarely cut/often mushed out when I needed the clarity. Unless I used single coil tele into bright SF Fender combo. Was it just mushin’ too much with the Bassman?

It's just a different mid shift and response. I suppose it could be thought of as mushy? My amp is modified to have sort of a British character; a faster transient response feel like a Marshall, less negative feedback, etc. The BD-2 enhances it and the Nordland does not. I have a Klon Klone that works in clean boost but it's too loud and the drive character of the BD-2 is better to my ears. Also, I only use single coils.

I used the Nordland in a rehearsal a few weeks ago with a Solid state bass amp and it was really great. I was playing guitar and "bass" (digitech whammy V set -1 octave). I think it makes a great bass OD.
