For fuzz sakes

On my band board :
- Fuzzrite
- EHX JMascis Big Muff
- EHX Flatiron Fuzz (more of a Rat clone; but it's written fuzz on it... so)

At home :
- Boss FZ-1W (the flavor of the month, my preferred fuzz right now. Thinking about changing my Big Muff on my board for it)
- Solidgold fx Imperial Fuzz (cut through the mix better then the Big Muff, but the sliders are not convenient for my board)
- Solidgold fx If 6 was 9 (old time favorite; would be on my board if I had room for it)

Being in a 3 pieces band really helps cutting through the mix; even with a max out Big Muff. Was in a 5 pieces band before; so much more difficult to cut through and always working dynamics. Not have this problem anymore. Without a soundman that knows your sound and songs, less is more, and I am talking about band members, and not fuzz

I actually swapped the order of my pedals so it goes rat then germanium filter and it works wonderfully usually I'd go fuzz before OD but good to mix things up I guess.

Probably still gonna buy a Sun Face though...

Get the Bart! I’m in love with it after getting it a couple of weeks back. It’s not big at all

Sweet, yeah good size. The sounds I've heard from the barts are all good, really tempted. From the videos I've seen the NKT 275 seems to be my favourite, which of course is out of production BC183 sounds pretty good too!

So many options available, but they're also pretty expensive. It is my birthday tomorrow though so I should treat myself, right?

I’m more and more getting into Tone Bender style fuzz, as I like the cut and zip they have.

The Ramble FX has been in my collection for a long time, but i didn’t give it the attention it deserves until recently. Apparently these went out of production a while back, and the prices went silly accordingly. But it is a very nice fuzz.



I still have a couple of Fuzz Face style pedals, but find myself struggling with them a bit, especially the Germanium ones - they can get a bit woolly at times. Silicon BC108 is my favourite transistor for FF styles, as they are a bit more focused than many.

And of course the Boss Waza fuzz (as i’ve said before) is an instant classic in my view. This would be my ‘desert island’ fuzz due to its reliability and versatility.

I’ve got a couple of fuzzes from Moreland Magnetics down in Atlanta - a Fuzz Face style and a Treble Booster style - and a really tasty octave fuzz from BALLS called a Beluga Fuzz. Between those three, I feel like I have my bases covered, and I never have more than one of them in the circuit at any given time.

Definitely dig up Moreland Magnetics if you’re looking for classics that are tweaked in the best way. That dude cares about fuzz more than you and the result is pedals that are more than good enough.

I have a few other fuzzes around (including a mystery chrome octave fuzz I got from OffYourFace), but I keep them in my classroom so students can experiment with sounds. Some kids are like “whut?” but some kids are like “WHAT?!”

Lately I’ve been thinking I’d like to sample fuzz again. Maybe the experts here could offer a suggestion or two.

I’ve had in the past:

Zoom ultra fuzz
Several green Russian muffs
Fabtone
The danelectro miniature foxx octave fuzz, the milk toast or whatever the fuck they were called

But none of them stuck around. I don’t play in heavy bands anymore. I just screw around by myself playing slow western sounding twangy surfy stuff.

I’d like a fuzz to be used just as an effect for a layer here or there if I’m looping things. As far as I can tell the “Fuzz-rite” style fuzz is probably what I’m after, not excessively bass heavy or sabbath sounding and not down the tone bender Jimi rabbit hole, more like a cartoony campy sound. Most of the options I see tend to be in the bender/muff/superfuzz/foxx family but I don’t keep up with pedals anymore so maybe there’s something out there that would suit me?

ah yes. the "is the proco rat a fuzz or a distortion" debate. tbh i kinda think of them as both. it's a distortion that can do an impression of a fuzz.

i dunno how many fuzz pedals i have at this point but i know i've probably got 5+ big muffs. these are the ones i know i have off the top of my head.

the donner fuzz seeker is kinda my "why is this soooo good?" fuzz pedal. i think it's based on a super fuzz or something. it's got a footswitch for the octave.

i have a modded meathead clone i built called the yandere fuzz. it sounds like it wants to rip your head off, it's great.

a fuzz factory clone which my friend plugged her ukulele into (video here i love this thing as a "fuck around" pedal.

i have a fuzzrite clone, it's neat.

My BART finally arrived today! Parcel Force took ages to let me know the customs fees...

As soon as I plugged in and turned it on I literally said "Wow!" It sounds incredible. Easily the greatest fuzz I've ever played. The cleanup is unreal too. It's so good I'm actually now looking for a second Sun Face that I can use with the input control dead low as a low gain OD pedal, the sound out of it used as an overdrivenis ridiculous.
