Ok, here’s a random one....

I bought a Keeley Delay Workstation, slightly impulsively, but the deal was good.

Just received it today, took it out of the box and began to fiddle, as you do. Strangely, the reverb and delay mode selector knobs (the two at the left) do not move. Not at all. Not in either direction, even when a fair amount of force is applied.

It’s brand new.

I’ve written to Keeley to ask for ideas, but wonder if if anyone has encountered this before. It’s possible that there is a simple explanation, and that i am an idiot for not working it out, but at any rate it has me baffled!

I haven’t included a pic, because there’s really nothing abnormal to see.

Ideas?

Are those switches analog (have a set spot they click to) or are they rotary encoders (can rotate infinitely, usually showing an LCD display for whatever is selected)?

Analog, with set spots they click to.

I tried powering the pedal up, in case somehow there was some kind of lock on them, but no luck. Very weird.

Try taking the knobs off, and seeing if there's something amiss with now they're attached? I'm having a hard time imagining why they would be, but it's worth taking a look under the hood.

Not that you'd be at all pushing the boundaries of good taste by simply returning it and demanding one that works.

Only had this (builder) when internally the pot is just seized up, broken. Like a spring popping out a rotary switch, or someone dropped solder inside a pot. It might be the mechanism of the indent where it clicks in thats stuck.
Solution usually new pot, no way of not destroying it more,if building.
If i bought it id return it!

Other is that yes, knobs could be too low so get stuck but i would assume this just scapes and not completely stuck against force. Worth trying to remove them if it wont void any warranty.

Really weird.

I wouldn’t touch it until you hear back from Keeley, or contact the seller about returning it.

If the pots are soldered to the board you could do some damage if you really go gorilla on it.

Thanks for your comments - it’s comforting to know that i wasn’t missing something stupidly obvious.

I got a reply from Keeley’s team. They suggested these knobs may have got pushed down during transit and therefore stuck, and that i should try a again to turn or remove them. I was a bit doubtful because the box and packaging showed no sign of transit-induced trauma.

Anyway, having effectively been given the ‘green light’ to remove them, i applied a touch more force, at which time the shaft broke clean in half I was somewhat surprised to see that it was a plastic shaft.

Even after this, i tried shifting the stump of the shaft - no movement whatsoever.

So, this will be getting sent back! How bizarre - especially considering that both the rotary switches had seized up this way.

I’m still confused as to how this could happen. I’ve never had any trouble with Keeley stuff in the past.

Oh yeah. It certainly is fucked now!

I’m not overly concerned, because i’m sure it’s just a one-off, and i should be able to get it exchanged without drama. Pretty weird, huh?

Wow. That's nuts. I figured that the knobs were pushed down too far, as I've had a pedal or two like that myself. That pot is frozen! Hopefully Keeley won't have any issues repairing or replacing the pedal for you.

The response i’ve got from Keeley has been awesome. They have been quick to respond, very apologetic and are paying my postage and all repair costs. Can’t fault that.

That's fantastic. Everything I've ever seen of Robert Keeley is that he's a stand-up guy.

Strange, everything I've seen is that he does audio electronics. Does he have a DVD of his routine?
