I use a bunch of always on ODs and boosts, they're probably my favourite type of pedal. I usually match the pedal to the amp: I love the Hotcake with Vox type amps, I either use a Z-vex super-hard-on or an Arc Effects Klone with Fender blackface amps and I like the Timmy with almost everything, I find the EQ on it really useful.

I sometimes use my Subdecay Liquid Sunshine in place of my Xotic SP compressor. It gives everything a tiny bit of grit and is wonderful with single coils and Vox amps.

for the last 3 years, my OCD has been on all the time. just a great sounding pedal through my rig, with any of my guitars.
What is your rig? I just got my 15 yr. old son a used OCD for Xmas and played it through my Vox AC15 and thought it sounded really good.

awesome! i run mine into a Fender Vibroverb. sounds great on both channels. with some chorus, a humbucker, a touch of delay, and the OCD cranked, i can get a pretty solid EVH tone too :D

OCD isn't visible in this other than a sliver sticking out from behind the wah.

I'm currently running a Fairfield Barbershop always on into a Hudson Broadcast that I kick on for gainier sound. Before the Barbershop I tried a bunch of pedals and always came back to my Blackstone Appliances Mosfet Overdrive as my always on low gain, but the Barbershop is giving the BAMO a run for it's money. Amp is a high headroom super clean Vibroverb clone.

zvex 2in1

also philosopher's tone and rm-1n, not OD's per say but they are always on and provide that same warm subtle boost in addition to their other functions

i have a dod 250 clone since 10 years that i'm in love. It's a preamp or boost, but it can go to overdrive; i mean the gain knob have a lot of course before the overdrive.
It's more richer , warmer and fuller than a bluesdriver. I don't like when the mids are too present in that kind of pedals.

I have three that I switch back and forth on and one's nearly always on between the BD-2, mini Fuck, and the 250 reissue.

I was looking at the harlow quite a while back, and had forgotten about it. Looked nice, from what I read - which sometimes can be a bunch of hype, but this is a Neve. So...how is it?

I also like the Blackstone, I need to hook that one back up again.

I seem to be trying to sort of Lazy Suzan a lot of my low gain/OD pedals around, the ones that aren't mainstays on one of my main boards, to check them out in different chains and amps, and so that they all get a little use and none of them are just completely sitting around gathering dust.

Otherwise I might have to sell one of them. <shudder>

But from what I've seen lately, the resale prices for most pedals are shit (especially the newer ones), so I think I'm going to hold onto most of the things that I might otherwise try to talk myself into selling in a weak moment.

So, reviving an old(er) thread...

I’ve had a Blackstone for quite a while. It’s nice, but hasn’t thrilled me enough to keep on a board. I haven’t used it with a dimed amp yet, tho, either.

I finally ordered a Harlow, hopefully will be here by Friday. I have a few compressors, including the Origin Cali76 SE, which I really like. I’m hoping the Harlow is as cool as I think it will be.

I’ve read that some people use it after the drives, anybody have any experience and recommendations with this?

Man, this came a long way.

So lately I've been doing this with a compressor, the Duncan Vise Grip. Nice thing to goose the amp a bit, and then throw on a Barber Direct Drive for leads/rave ups.
