LED Question

Post by HNB » Mon Dec 10, 2018 10:36 am

I ordered 3 3 volt LEDs and I want to connect them to a 9 volt battery. Is it possible to do this just by hooking them in series? (Positive to negative.) Would I need a resistor?

Also I am not sure if it is possible. Ideally I would like to connect six to one 9volt battery. Is there a way to connect six three volt LED's to a 9 volt battery?

Here is the type I am using.
2- 3mm White Led Lights/3 Volt/2 Pin/Diode/Lamp/Round/Clear/Remote/TV/B-79

Kind of?
My expertise goes as far as this reference page that I just found:

It seems like it could be possible, but I am not sure of the wiring and resistor value.

I think if you only only want 6 LEDs and a 9V battery...

you would follow the process of this diagram for the forward voltage of your LEDs, your target current, and either 3 lines of 2 LEDs or 2 lines of 3 LEDs.

I also think 3 LEDs in series for one 9V battery (without any resistors) would be fine, but the battery will drain faster.

So if I run two lines of 3 each (9 volts each line) the one battery can handle it? I was worried that each line would be trying to pull 9 volts at the same time and the one battery wouldn't handle it well.

Sounds like I can run those two lines of three 3 watt led's each with a resistor. I ordered some 1/4 watt 1ohm resistors. I hope those will work. I am no electrical expert.
