I want one. Big time. Just bought a DS-1 the other day. It rules so hard on my steel guitar.

Well, there are voices in the unternet who claim the EQ is awesome and this is a very flexible pedal. I'm tempted to buy one myself to find out.

short answer yes, long answer no.

i've played a few and what i learned was it's a great studio pedal with a sound that can work well in certain context's. but on the downside, the eq at louder volumes is pointless, the distortion is fizzy but without any definition.

I see what you mean about the EQ, I have a HM-2 and can't believe they discontinued it in favour of this - it's not awful but the EQ controls are a bit finicky and it's all a bit fizzy but can make a good stab at 90s Prong and White Zombie sounds... if you remember them.

Hadn't given Prong much of thought in the last 20 year until I found myself playing 'Snap your fingers snap your neck' while tweaking this pedal.

First impressions are is not bad - it's basically the sound of the NIN Broken album - watched a few youtube videos and they all max the gain - a quick route to a shite sound, with everything set around 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock range then move the mid freq off if you want some scoops. Easier to get a bad sound than a good one but it does have good ones.... need more tinkering time to get my full opinion

Bad NIN rip off contained within

are old "Metal" pedals becoming a trend now?

I've seen Fluff on youtube demoing the metal zone, dod grunge, and Ryan from 60cycle hum demoing the metalzone.
Pedals&effects with dod metal maniac and thrash master.
Josh from JHS going on about dod super american metal.
and an episode of show us your junk, with Juan from P&E talking about ibanez LA Metal pedal,

and that these pedals were looked over because they had "metal" written on them.
Which I believe is true. If you dial in any pedals you can get a decent tone if you spend enough time with it.

honestly, i think there is more than enough gain in modern metal that "metal" pedals dont cut it anymore. plus improvements in pickup technology means most times, metal guitar players can get all their gain from the amp.

I've always been a fan of the HM-2 (my favorite dirt pedal) but I don't play metal. I think these pedal maybe fall short for their target metal market then get over looked by everyone else due to the metal tag.

I also have a DOD American metal which is also a great pedal. I like quite extreme distortions.

Or they've all been buying up 'metal' pedals for cheap for years now they're creating a market for them...
