Power Cable Replacement

Post by sndansby » Sat Nov 17, 2018 12:52 pm

I just bought and received a Voodoo Labs 4x4 power supply from Reverb. It arrived without the power cable, the one that runs from the unit to the wall. I found a cable at work that fits in the back of the power supply but I am concerned that it is not rated for this kind of unit. I am a novice at this and I thought I would ask you guys before I plugged the unit into the wall with a cable that it did not come with. As you probably know the unit has a sticker on the back that reads 120 V Only. The cable has a lot of letters and numbers thrown together that I can not decipher but it does say "300V". In your opinion is the cable safe to use with this power supply?

Thanks
Scott

The cable will not produce more power than what's coming out of your walloutlet, so you're fine.

Thank you. I kinda thought that but I did not want to put my pedals or the power supply in jeopardy.

Thanks

The "300V" on your IEC cable is a rated maximum. I know it can be confusing, but you're definitely fine. The cable is a passive device-- it can only pass along what's put into it. As long as your wall outlet is in the US, Canada, Japan, or some other place where the standard is nominally 100-120v, you'll be fine!
