Re: lee ranaldo's show us your junk
This is the first time I've seen up close the Telecaster "Deluxe" (as he calls it), that he says he bought in high school (shown in B&W pic on video), and which spawned his interest in WRHBs. It was originally brown before being stolen in 1999, and blue when he got it back.
But it doesn't look like a Deluxe. It appears to be a 70's Telecaster Thinline. That Thinline model did have two WRHBs (different to the 69 Thinline) ... and his clearly has the Thinline f-hole and Thinline pickguard. But Ronaldo's does have the big strat-style Tele Deluxe headstock, so it is a Deluxe neck (the stock Thinline headstock is Tele-size) - but that's the only thing that appears to be from a Deluxe.

I'm not a Sonic Youth expert but I see this confusion about it being a Thinline has been briefly noted before, but without much detail ...

Pics there show it has also had a rosewood neck at some time (Deluxe neck was maple), with blank strat headstock.
You also see there and on the video that the bridge WRHB has had 3 extra holes rough-drilled in the lower cover to bring out the leftmost pole pieces (Cunife in original WRHBs) in the lower row. And the upper pole pieces no longer line up with the original holes (and the lower row are a little off too), so it's possible what's inside is no longer all original WRHB ... I'm wondering if it has some regular HB guts ?
A curious guitar to be sure. An early partscaster.
Lee did also have real Deluxes, like this ...

More SY gear here ...

Legendary SY guitar, worthy of a signature model that I could not afford. Some of their stolen guitars were changed quite a bit before they were returned.

Nice!! Even though I think SY guys are kind of jerks, I respect them a lot.
I also dig how he knows the story for each piece of gear he owns. Sometimes bands will just say " yeah we got this in 2000 maybe 2001 and it's a Fender amp". Lee's giving us a lot of details

I love how he still refers to Sonic Youth in present tense.
They don't advertise for killers in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-cop. Ex-blade runner. Ex-killer.

The thing that struck me most was how terribly unhealthy he looks. I've always been conscious of his skin problem but he looks like death warmed up. Maybe it was just bad lighting.
