THAT is really good to know. I usually do full chords, but I always loved Andy's sound.

He explains it more into depth in this video, it's very useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZFb6mQ ... IO&index=4Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 8:37 pmTHAT is really good to know. I usually do full chords, but I always loved Andy's sound.

I downloaded that series and watched the first, but never finished it. That would make sense why I didn't know itFilipe wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 12:00 amHe explains it more into depth in this video, it's very useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZFb6mQ ... IO&index=4

Re: Swells
Particle Verb, Analog Echo and Analog Chorus (they're digital) on the M13 then through the Korg volume pedal into the Vox sounds nice.
Two pieces of info I received here that helped a lot:
1. Played triads or a couple notes - not chords
2. Volume pedal before the effect. (I thought after would make more sense.)

Yeah, or at least before the delays and reverbs, you'd cut off their trails otherwise. I like my volume pedal after all the dirt effects, but before the delay and reverb. If you place the volume pedal in the beginning of the chain, the distortion cleans up if you have the volume pedal down and gradually becomes fuller as you swell. If you place it after the distortions, you can make fully distorted swells, which I prefer.

Re: Swells
That's how I do it too. I put mine after my gains and tremolo, but before delays and reverb. It's a natural sounding swell. That said, I do think it would sound really cool to have a reverbed/delayed swell, that also changes the gain too (volume before gain). I wouldn't do it all the time, but I bet it would be neat now and again.Filipe wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 8:29 amYeah, or at least before the delays and reverbs, you'd cut off their trails otherwise. Re: Swells
Was under the impression stars of the lid just used alesis midiverb and a volume pedal. But better verbs probably exist now like eventide space, strymon, earthquaker etc. Anything massive will do that has proper modulated reverb. I think combining verbs and delays will add more depth. Pitch shifting is also very useful.

I beleive The Stars of the Lid using Quadraverbs or midiverbs was mentioned in a prior thread. Very interesting!

Re: Swells
I saw them a lot back in the day. They used Alesis like everyone else and I think some Digitech and Boss as well, but the mid-90s was the era of taking drugs to make music to take drugs to, so '93-96 is pretty fuzzy these days. SOTL, Sixteen Deluxe, Furry Things, Light Bright Hi-Way, Mazinga Fazer, American Analog Set, Experimental Aircraft, Marble Index, Flying Saucers, Warm Jets, Windsor for the Derby, Hollowbody...crazy sounds and crazy times with psychedelic lights and film by Luke Savinsky.
