I still like Aen's Plane Ticket Plus. Clean with the Zazz turned down, fucky dirtry with it turned up.

I might have this wrong, but I think the Plane Ticket and the MBM Saltbooster are the same pedal. I think Aen and Mike were making them to raise funds for something or other back in the day.

Mike has since brought out the Saltbooster Plus, and Aen the Plane Ticket Plus.

Aen made them so he could afford a plane ticket to NAMM back in'07 and '08.

Sounds about right. I've been digging around shortscale threads from a decade ago and it seems that Aen sent Mike the schematic to do a European run. Mike changed it a bit and called it the Saltbooster.

Anybody own or mess with the Walrus Plainsman?

Looks like it has relay (hopefully silent) switching and I like the fact that it has a low gain mode and eq that can be switched in an out.

Despite being fairly hideous to look at (Comic Sans!), the Xotic RC Booster has been on my board for quite a while. I generally put it at the end of my dirt section for just raising volume if I need to come up a bit, so in that sense it's being used pretty much purely as a clean boost. That said, it can do a lot more... you can dial in more gain before or after other drives, and the eq is really handy. Lastly it's pretty great for matching volume levels if you're using a couple of guitars that have different outputs. Maybe I should get it rehoused, haha...

I didn't know that was an older EHX circuit. When they came out with the smaller one a few years ago, I thought it was a new design.

I’ve been using a Homebrew Electronics Dos Mos for many years. It has a boost side and a second side that can be used as a second boost or as a buffer.

Me too! I used to put it before anything else, now I place it after and use the 1st channel as buffer and 2nd as clean boost.

Just tried a V2 the other day and really liked the sound. I could see the 2nd channel being useful for level matching as a “set and forget” thing, but between the closely spaced switched and reaching that tiny pot for level 2 it doesn’t seem that practical for toggling between “channels” mid-song.

The eq is nicely voiced and useful. I think if I see a V1 for cheap I’ll grab it.

Ahh interesting, didn't even know about the V2 yet. I agree with you, though—not sure how much I'd use that extra gain stage. But yep, the EQ is practical, useful, and really just downright nice. Overall the pedal does what it says, with pretty much zero pretense. :)

Anybody use a Keeley Katana? Sounds great in demos but I’m worried it might be too bright.
I have a Katana that I bought about 12-15 years ago or so. It is what it says, it's pretty much crystal clean & clear, just louder, unless you pull out the knob (it's the old, original version with the knob on the side). It's still a kind of light drive to the boost when you pull out the knob, if I remember correctly, I assume it's still the same circuit being made, just a different casing setup. I don't notice any added brightness, even with the the drive on, but I haven't used it in a while. I may need to pull it out & see.

I also have an Xotic EP boost, I like that, too, but that one definitely colors the sound a bit. I think I've only tried it in the vintage mode or whatever, I don't think I've moved the pins to the more modern settings.

It's a boost booster, to boost your boost - it makes your tone much muchier.
