Fixing an OG Bad Stone?

Post by solfege » Mon Apr 30, 2018 10:44 am

So I have this original EH Bad Stone that I loved for years, and which is currently non-functional. I would really like to get it fixed, but I really don't have a sense of who does this kind of work. I'm in the US. Does anyone have recommendations?

Maybe Analog Man? I'm not sure if he still does repairs, but i know he does mod vinatge pedals for true bypass and what not. Plus he's one the most knowledgeable people when it comes to vintage pedals. If he won't do it, I'm sure he can steer you in the rigt direction.

FWIW, I emailed Howard Davis, and he doesn't work on these as he didn't design them. Says they're tricky to repair though. Sigh.

I'll try Analogman. It's a good suggestion, which I'd considered too.

have you tried EHX? they are still around, of course, and according to a pal who tours famously with a few vintage EHX pedals, they have been taking on his repair needs, as he is right there in NYC. hopefully it's not just because he's famous.
i've been meaning to hit them up, but have been pretty lucky at keeping mine alive.

while i've never tried to work on my Bad Stone, it sure doesn't look that complicated.
yeah - Howard would have been my second call - i'm glad to hear he doesn't need to work on something he didn't design.
i'm a little bit stuck on my old Polyphase acting up - i believe that's one of his babies. might give him a ring, though i'm kinda broke!

Howard did say the Bad Stones were a bit tricky to work on and are often unrepairable. I'm guessing he's thinking of physical decay, which certainly could be my problem. The sense I got from EHX website is that they don't do repairs on stuff that old, but I guess it's worth emailing them.

I have a Smallstone v3 that is broken und wanted to get that repaired a couple of years ago - talked to http://www.fxdoctor.com/index.php?optio ... id=7&id=17 as they offer a lot of mods on older EHX phasers but never got to it because they didn't want to ship international and did not offer paypal back then...

I can not say anything about their service but they just came to mind when I read your post ... since you are in the US maybe get in contact with em?
