I am launching the Reuss 'Wine and Roses' Steve Wynn signature pedal

Image

It's a dual overdrive/distortion based on the Reuss Germanium Dirt and Old Black Shoe models.

I am not officially at NAMM, but I'm there 8)

this can't pass without comment -- it's a work of art. tell us about your inspiration -- yes, all-time GREAT album! -- and developing it with Steve Wynn. i'd really like to hear how this came about - 8)

Thanks a lot for the kind and encouraging words, DC :)

The story of the Wine & Roses pedals is that Steve Wynn was a secret fan of my pedals for some time, having bought quite a few under his wife's name. Then last spring he got in touch with me with the plan of launching a signature pedal to coincide with the release of the new album in September.

Like many 80s post-punk guys he originally used a MXR Distortion+ back in the days, and as both my Old Black Shoe and Germanium Dirt models are evolutions of that classic circuit, it was a good place to start.

Unfortunately the project got much delayed and didn't make it for September 2017, because my suppliers just kept on fucking up the enclosures (I use a smith for drilling, an industrial painter for powder coat finishing and a silk screen guy for the printing). Three times I had to start all over from raw aluminium boxes. Which was expensive and took forever.

But now they are here and looking and sounding great, the complete batch of 75 pedals finally being assembled over this weekend and starting shipping in two weeks when quality checked and put in boxes and all.

Steve Wynn have been touring with a pedal containing the production circuitboard in a blank enclosure for the whole tour, starting last fall.

that's a great story! and to find out that when i saw Dream Syndicate last September he was already using one -- that's really cool.

as it happens, they opened the set with "Halloween" and also played "Days of Wine and Roses," so both the album and your pedal got their due. and sounded great - 8)

That's cool and all, but hardly the groundbreaking achievement that is NINE Tubescreamers in one pedal.
The only situation in which having nine tubescreamers could possibly interest me is if I could chain all 9 of them together. I'm just not a fan of the TS tone at all.

I was being sarcastic. I'm not a TS fan either, or a JHS fan for that matter.

If I ever want a TS flavored Swiss Army Knife I'll get a Palisades.

Or a Dunes if you want it more compact :D I have a Dunes and had a Palisades. Both are much more versatile than tubescreamers as it was Jamie's own circuit. A bit darker. Honestly, I use mine as mid-boosting or a final EQ for my drive section (like how Gilmour uses his EQ's after his Tube Drivers). Cool sound.

Oh, I totally picked up on your lack of enthusiasm. I was just pointing out the only way that that sentence could intrigue me."Nine tubescreamer flavours" - meh. "Nine tubescreamers cascading into each other" - okay, at least we're going to get some interesting artefacts and feedback out of this thing! I would 100% try that thing out to see what it does, whereas you never need a spirit of curiosity to plug into a tubescreamer...

Has anyone heard any more about a possible Catalinbread Echorec Deluxe?

About a year ago (or whenever the Belle Epoch Deluxe came out) there was some murmuring about this.

Cheers,
J.

Yeah there was a thread about it on some other forum that I don't usually read, in which someone from CB hinted that it may be on the cards.

Considering what they did with the belle epoch deluxe, you'd think it would be pretty damn good. Here's hoping it actually Comes to fruition!

Cheers!
J

Kind of excited about the Gore Screech octave fuzz, though I'm not convinced that it (or any octave fuzz) would actually work for me.
