Translucent is the new transparent?
Translucent Overdrive from EQD
Have they jumped the shark? Transparent was almost meaningless, now we have translucent. Pretty soon we'll have the polarized overdrive that is only transparent in some frequencies and then the opaque, matte, and high gloss overdrives. It does sound good though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: Translucent is the new transparent?
Man, I can't WAIT for opaque overdrives! That's gonna be rad. Haha.
EQD is seriously my favorite pedal company, and just about everything they make sounds amazing to me. The Westwood sounds pretty good, but I'm less a fan of their drive pedals (with the exception of The Dunes and the Palisades) than I am of everything else they make. They make some unique stuff, but their muffs didn't impress me when I tried it...

I think it sounds ok, but I'm the target demographic for this pedal. If anything it's too polite.
Have to give props to EQD's marketing people. Really good decision to do the media blitz ahead of NAMM.

It's more of a Klon type thing apparently. Not a klone, but fulfils similar roles.

I thought they were making a joke about "transparent" overdrives.

Re: Translucent is the new transparent?
In audio, transparent is supposed to mean it doesn't affect the sound. So these are basically placebo pedals? They only do what you think they do?
I guess translucent might affect the sound a little bit. For those who don't hear anything from the transparent pedals.

Re: Translucent is the new transparent?
I always thought transparent as a term used for overdrives was kinda dumb, but I think what they're trying to say is straight gain, like a mixing board would add gain to a microphone? I'd think that would still color, but I'm not sure. It actually doesn't sound bad, but doesn't do much for me either.spacecadet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 6:14 pmIn audio, transparent is supposed to mean it doesn't affect the sound. Re: Translucent is the new transparent?
With the EQ at 12 o’clock there’s no tonal difference and it acts as a straight clean boost that you can then add up to one stage of gain to. If you then adjust the eq you can boost/cut the treble around 2kHz and boost or cut the bass at 80Hz.
