You can actually tune it to specific notes, it's one of the best things about the dd5, that and it's front to back reverse mode.SansRegret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:41 amOn my DD5, I will crank the feedback and set the delay time very short, it creates a weird harmonic overtone thing instead of an actual delay sound.

What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Re: Using Effects In Weird Ways
The Monument pedal sounds fantastic on some Youtube clips I checked out. I think you'll like the results you get quite a bit. Stacking trem is a LOT of fun.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 11:56 pmThat's amazing!! I know a couple guys who do that with a jack "slug" (unsoldered cord plug, and connected to nothing) to create insane feedback from the input jack, but I might have to try that with the output jack!!fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:44 pmMy op amp Big Muff, if you don't plug the out jack in all the way, will feedback on itself and sustain for days, put a delay or flanger after that and go get a beer, it will play without you.
I also LOVE the trick using a ring modulator as a tremolo. Mark Engles (Dredg) uses a Moog ring modulator (one of the big ones) and I always wondered how he got his trem sound!
Dude, me too. I'm THIS close to pulling the trigger on the Walrus Audio Monument just for the momentary mode ( Walrus Audio Monument ; link set RIGHT at spot in video). I've always liked tremolo after my Keeley-modded Boss TR-2, but I eventually settled on my EQD Hummingbird (repeat percussion), since it can also do the super fast, almost ring modulated sounds. Killer sounding trem.julius2790 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:50 pmThe vibrato is a "Maggie" and it's suppose to be as close to the real thing as you can get. I take the harmonic trem and set it at a slower rate into the Maggie so they are sort of rubbing against each other. It's like an ocean with jazz chords and spring reverb.
I just realized I do have a friend that has a repeat percussion! Might have to try that out soon. I nerd out so hard on different kinds of tremolo! My favorite effect by far.
I'm definitely gonna have to try that trick with two trems!!

Plug a Crybaby wah in backwards and it will make siren sounds.
I like sticking a pitch shifter in the effect loop of my Deluxe memory boy. The repeats keep getting higher/lower as time goes on.

Re: Using Effects In Weird Ways
I liked using the Synth-wah with a flanger, you get the open-close of the envelope with the up & down of the flanger.
turn on some tremolo too.
wah after delay, so the delays are filtered.
volume pedal with MXR variphase.
start the variphase on fast, and bring your foot back as you do volume swells.
the Boss PS5 has all kinds of weirdness.
I play with a slide and using the T.arm to get fake pedal steel sounds.
Keep your foot on T.arm and play with the speed on slow, you get a wobbly modulation
Flutter on fastest setting, keep your foot on, do volume swells. sort of sounds the the EQD hummingbird.
play with reverse-delay. make a loop. reverse the loop.
delay with sample/hold, I have a bit crusher after the delay.
make a small loop, then *crush* the loop. make of loop of crushing loop.
turn on some tremolo too.

This is the exact thing Gilmour did to make the crying seagull sounds on the middle section of Echoes. You can use the tone knob on your guitar to make it swell in and out. In my experience, it works best with strats and single coil guitars.

Vibrato is pitch, tremelo is volume. The old school magnatone amp vibrato is like the prettiest thing youll ever hear.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:37 pmThat's cool! Is the Magnatone trem a repeat percussion style tremolo? I've never thought of running two trems like that together. I've got an EQD Night Wire for my bass rig, I should really try that!!

And it supposedly it only works with certain types of wahs too. I've never tried it, but I think it sounds cool as hell.
Awesome tips everyone!! Love reading this stuff!

Shimmer is generally awful, but it can sound cool when scraping wound strings with a pick.

Doom Soundtrack GDC talk
Video starts at the point where he begins discussing his pedal set up. The whole discussion was fascinating to me. I always enjoy hearing different approaches to composition and music creation. The pedals used aren't cheap but this kind of thinking is extremely interesting. If you did something like this with guitar and time-based effects you could create some pretty unique music.

I just remembered I have an old peavey digital delay that does this on its own.

Yeah I ended up watching it again after posting and there are so many interesting things in it. The whole process is awe inspiring. I did a little soundtrack work for my friend's indy game but the way they did the Doom soundtrack is nutso.
