Pedal Switch Toppers

Post by Unicorn Warrior » Thu Dec 28, 2017 6:15 pm

I just ordered some Mooer switch toppers after having some funds left over from a looper purchase.

I can see these coming in handy as I am a hybrid bedroom/gig player. Most of the creating and effect experimentation happens with my shoes off. It will be nice to have better tactile feedback and not have to go grab my shoes every time I power my board on.

The Mooer seemed to be the cheapest online. Are there any other companies making these?

I saw some more expensive ones that were metal. But at like $7 bucks a pop. Pretty steep for what they are imo.

I think there are more companies, but the two I know are Mooer, and Barefoot (link above), i.e. the more expensive metal ones you mentioned.

Looks like Caline also makes them.

There are some knockoff Barefoot Buttons on ebay for like $2. Shipped direct from China of course.

I need to get something for the Moar. It has a small enclosure and sits right next to my Boss tuner, so often I switch the tuner on trying to hit it so I get silence instead of more rawk.

The Mooer Switch toppers came in. I have to say that these fit all of my pedals well. They are a little loose fitting on my eventides, but fit well enough that I don't think there will be a problem.

They are going to be handy. I wish more companies made them right now, because the price is a bit high for what is essentially small pieces of plastic.

I can't see the more expensive metal ones being anymore useful than these mooers.

I'm going to enjoy not having to have my foot stabbed by the small switch anymore on my tap tempo delays :w00t:

I actually never thought about that. I play at home and barefoot (or with socks) MOST of the time. I should look at a few of these for a few pedals...

I just ordered one of these for my Moar.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/182675017277

Last time I practiced with it I was reminded (again) of how annoying it is to try to step on it with the giant tuner next to it. Hopefully a little extra width and height will help. I play guitar with shoes on like a civilized person.

The more I mess with pedals the more I appreciate Boss.

I like those! It's too bad they don't have more colors, but I like that they're just a flat top with no contours!! The price is right too!

It's here. For $1.90 shipped I'm pretty happy with the quality. The tolerances are good and the threads are cut cleanly. I did a wrap and a half of painter's tape around the switch tip to keep it from getting gouged, which is part of the reason the hardware sticks out a little, but I think it would anyway. Not a big deal to me. I used purple Loctite on the threads, so this isn't going anywhere. I also taped the wrench inside the pedal with painter's tape (covering the metal so it doesn't short anything out) so it will always be with the pedal if it's needed.

As you can see this widens the effective area of the switch quite a bit and gets it closer to the height of the TU-2.

Got some of those just the other day myself.
I put a little packing in the top of the inside(rubber), as fully seated the switches wouldn't work. The packing will stop the buttons pushing down if the screws dont hold. Only real criticism is that the grub screws are a bit cheesey & not all of the different finishes came up so good, more due to the machining. Oddly enough the red & blue ones looked best.
In all, for a couple of $ each thumbs up.

Just got a batch of the Barefoot Buttons earlier this week and they work great but it does hurt $ wise. Then again they're really nice materials and machining and seem like a better value than a number of other guitar (or other niche) part purchases I've made all things considered.

I usually have some sort of shoes on when I play but they seem to work great and definitely make it a lot easier to hit the second row pedal switches.

Just snagged one of these for my DD500's tap tempo button. Thanks for the link!

oh nice, I think I'll try it

I just have one pedal with a soft touch switch, but I was so surprised when I got it that I liked it so much. It hadn't influenced my decision at all, but a couple years later I'm still pretty irrationally impressed.

It’s funny, I just got in a conversation with a friend about these this week. I just bought a pair of slippers I use when recording at home, and problem solved. 8)

Functionally, I think they’re brilliant but aesthetically I can’t get behind them. I guess I’m in the minority though, as I see more and more of them popping up.
