This pedal is listed at 80 bucks in Guitar Center......I can buy it, try it, then bring it back. I don't get the Smashing Pumpkins hate on OSG.....they were popular in the early to mid 90's....not popular now. Also, why the hate for skeewiddlying is beyond me.

What I am baffled by is the undying love of Slowdive. Not a we bit of skeewiddlying on that cd. However, I think the newish cd ticks all the boxes for that genre. Great guitar sound though....

Personally, I don't like how there's an entire market made of small "boutiques" building clones with weird names, fancy casings and an additional switch for a kidney. Other than that:

- EHX is cheaper
- EHX Is the real deal
- EHX is awesome

This leads to "why get a clone?" I mean, get a clone if you like the clone, period, not because it's more advantageous.
Why get a clone? Here's why: Until VERY recently literally everyone but EHX made decent Muffs. The hadn't made good Muffs since the 90's until the Green Russian reisssue. I haven't tried EHX in couple of years but the last pedals I tried from them sounded awful and had terrible quality. The enclosure felt like it was going to cave in. Maybe they've improved their quality now that they are making decent sounding pedals again but that is why people buy clones.
When the "little big muff" first came out, I bought it to try and save board space. It sounded like garbage. I've had it sitting around for like a decade+ and I finally figured I'd take it out and use it on a synth so it can at least do something. Still sounds like garbage. Before I guess the "boutique" pedal explosion or whatever, I used a lot of EHX and dunlop/mxr gear. Other than the old school hendrix 90's pedals, I doubt I would buy anything for either company ever again. Every time I try something out I find it really disappointing. Then again, I have a digital distortion pedal on my board, so maybe I'm just getting old.

This is the one: Image

Makes me choke on my espresso but you're safe on that one because it goes perfectly with your expresso. ;)

I got this yesterday. The volume fix on the tone bypass is very, very appreciated and quite nice. It sounds good and makes me more glad that I got rid of the tone wicker. If I were to rank my current Muff Fuzz pedals in terms of sound quality and usefulness, it would probably look like this:
1. Basic Audio Tri/Ram Muff
2. EHX Op Amp Big Muff
3. Stomp Under Foot Civil War
4. EHX Green Russian Big Muf

Prymaxe has these for like $65 with the code on the banner of the website.

You have to preorder and email them to get it but that's almost Joyo price

Prymaxe set me up with both of the new Muffs in that $65-$68 range. At that price I couldn't resist to buy both. Reminds me of collecting cool Hot Wheels as a kid. I've not used the op-amp Muff yet but I gigged the Russian Muff last night. Certainly sounded thick and wooly.

EHX is obviously competing with the boutique market. So of the mini-pedals, they've got Green Russian (V8), the Op Amp (V4/V5 with V6 colors) and the Nano which is closest to the current NYC V9 which is pretty close to V3/V6. Does this mean they will release Triangle/Ramshead (V1), Violet Ramshead (2) and Civil War/Red Army (V7) nano pedals next year? Their choice on a Triangle/OG Ramshead rerelease would be interesting since technically that's something like 18 different circuit variations with slight differences.

I mean, it wouldn't surprise me. If anything, EHX's problem is they put out too much stuff. Some of their stuff is really good, some is less good. I'd rather they just focused on a few things and did them well to be really honest about it. But it wouldn't shock me if they had like 20 muffs for sale in a few years. They need to try to compete with all the copies out there.

Man, I'm late to this party, but that alone was worth showing up for. I'd almost forgotten about that little thing. :D

Though I have to concur with the idea with EHX muffs being cheaper than the clones. Unless you're getting a biyang fuzz star, you're paying more for what in many cases is realistically not any better than you're getting buying the EHX. I guess if SMT components really ruin your day, there's that, but the only pricier than the EHX clone that seems to me like it brings something special is the ARC effects big green because of its mids control. I got a $40 fuzz star and it's got all the through board components anyone could want. I haven't been able to justify a fancier muff because it's just so dang good at any price. All power to the small guys making quality pedals and the folks that support them, but I haven't seen any that really compete pricewise with EHX, to speak to that point.

They'll probably approach J Mascis and clone his ram's head lol

Finally got mine in this week, and I'm in love. It's similar to other muffs, but I can dial in that extra "edge" in spots where my old muff (always used black Russian ones) could get to mushy around the edges. This is the dirt I've been looking for.

I got one and since the only BM I've ever liked was the one I had at the end of high school, which was bought new, it should surprise no one that I love the Op-Amp, as it's the only Big Muff that sounds like what I think a Big Muff sounds like.

Yes, I'm old.
