Well, i do already have an amazing sounding Ibanez Wau Fuzz, but this one was priced right, and i liked the idea of owning something that Thurston Moore might get jealous of...
Nikki Sudden was the singer and guitar player of the legendary post-punk band Swell Maps from the 70s. Sadly, he died at a very young age in 2006.
In 2007 there seems to have been an estate equipment sale of (some of) his instruments. All the evidence i could find online of that was this image here:
So true or not, this pedal has a silver name label/sticker on its bottom "nikky sudden" and i chose to believe the story. The previous owner said he got it from that estate sale 10 years ago, but has no certificate or such., just the pedal.
Anyways, you wanna hear what it sounds like?
I would bet my balls that what you hear here is my pedal:

Anyway, i thought this was cool.
Quite strange too is that compared to my Ibanez branded wau fuzz, this one has the wah function "reversed" like some Shin-Ei wahs too; so it's more a "hawhaw pedal!

sweet story. no doubt david will be along soon saying he has every swell maps album. i'm gonna say that sounds like one of those wau wau fuzz pedals on the song. not much sounds like them other than being chased down a corridor by a explosion
offset guitars resident bass player.

I can distinctly remember the first time I heard Swell Maps, at some dude's house who was into all sorts of weird and cool stuff. They deserve their place among the greats. Cool to have a pedal that (maybe) helped shape that sound .

That's really cool! Nikki did a great album with Rowland S Howard, Kiss You Kidnapped Charabanc as well as contributed to the, also great, I knew Buffalo Bill collab album with Jeremy Gluck, Rowland and Jeffrey Lee Pierce, both are worth a look if anyone is unfamiliar. That and his work with Swell Maps and Jacobites, a very unique and talented individual, who like Oat said, died way too young after a gig in NY.
