DIY pedalboard

Post by danbind » Thu Sep 21, 2017 5:00 pm

I’ve always had a pretty low-tech pedalboard. Part laziness, part disorganization. Stuff it in a backpack and go, with everything coming unhitched, and knob settings all untweaked, enroute to wherever.

So I looked at the pile of scraps in my workroom and got inspired to do some cutting. Here’s the base parts fitted together:

Cut slots in three pieces to fit some strips for the board itself:

Stained them with some stain I had—then sprayed on a little clear nitro I had left over from another project:

That sort of fits:

Glued up the base, and did some roundovers:

Then I bought some “Hiwatt red” tolex online, spray-glued it on. Cut and wood-glued the edges—used some stripping to hold the edges in place while it dried:

Built a lid, tall enough to provide room. Considering all the “eyeball” measurements and cuts I did, it is pretty close to square and even.

Hacked together two standoffs for the base out of scraps, and put in threaded inserts so I can screw down the board. I had a can of “basil” spray paint that I had planned to use for a body project, but it looked good with the red, so I used it here.

Added felt inside the lid, and put on hardware: corners, half-hinges on the back, and quarter turn fasteners on the front. Used a Home Depot drawer pull for a handle.

Still need to wire in power to the AC jack, and Velcro the plate. I have rubber feet for the bottom (horizontallhy and vertically) that I need to add. It is about 22" x 13", large enough for me. I'm happy with the way it turned out.
