Reunited And It Feels So Goooood
When I first moved to Seattle I played in an Americana-esque band. The singer's amp didn't have trem so he borrowed this from me. When the band fizzled out I didn't think to ask for it back. We stayed on good terms and would talk periodically. We got together about a month ago but he forgot to bring it. This morning I rode my bike to West Seattle and grabbed it off his porch where he left it for me. It was a little grubby, but some Goo-Gone cleaned it up pretty well.
Just plugged it in and it's as good as I remember... 15+ years later. Super excited. It's going to be the heart of the second board I'm putting together.

ooh yeah, what a great pedal!
and your friend must be a standup guy bc the pedal is worth a bit of money and over 15 years could have easily gotten "lost".

I've heard nothing but good things about the PN-2, and I feel like I need to try one as tremolo is my favorite effect. Besides the stereo inputs and outputs, what makes it different from other tremolo pedals? Know anyone who makes a clone?

I was shocked when I looked up values recently. Funny, I bought it new back when American Musical Supply was blowing them out for super cheap.

All that plus a hard square wave chopping trem/pan. Not sure. Lots of trems out there with variable wave shapes, but I don't know about the pan thing.Shadoweclipse13 wrote:I've heard nothing but good things about the PN-2, and I feel like I need to try one as tremolo is my favorite effect. the simplicity of it, and the fact it's crammed into a boss pedal. It doesn't seem much to write home about but just two great sounding waveforms that are not reminiscent of tube/amp tremolo but super usable and great sounding. The tr-2 is definitely capable of the hypnotic triangle sound but does not chop as unforgivably hard as the pn-2 square wave. The behringer tp300 is a direct clone, they nailed it I tried them side by side the behringer has a slightly lower signal quality but an advantage is the rate actually goes much faster than the PN-2.Shadoweclipse13 wrote:I've heard nothing but good things about the PN-2, and I feel like I need to try one as tremolo is my favorite effect. Interesting. The TR-2 is what made me fall in love with tremolo to begin with, but I always wanted something that could do that hard chopping. My trem (EQD V3 Hummingbird) is almost always on, and I won't get rid of it, but I've been looking at the Jam Pedals Big Chill for the choppy thing. I may have to pick up one of those Behringers...Harmoncj wrote:the simplicity of it, and the fact it's crammed into a boss pedal. I had one a while ago but it was very noisy. I'd love to see Boss release a TR-2w with stereo ins and outs and a custom mode of the PN-2.

Oh, man. Those things are awesome. One of these days I'll get one. It's hard to justify because I've got another pedal that does the same thing, but those are one of the few pedals I fetishize. There's something about them. The color, the layout, all of it... Just wonderful pedals.

That would be cool, but how about just a Waza PN-2? They'd make a killing I'm sure.MT wrote:I had one a while ago but it was very noisy. I'd love to see Boss release a TR-2w with stereo ins and outs and a custom mode of the PN-2.

Re: Reunited And It Feels So Goooood
That's the thing with really good tremolo. I find it hard to work out or say what's good about it. Like, it's essentially a glorified, automated volume knob. I can never work out why some sound warm, or creamy or even good or bad. I suppose that words like warm or clear usually mean that the pedal has filtered made the tone bassier or treblier, but a good, warm tremolo doesn't do that.Harmoncj wrote:It doesn't seem much to write home about but ...
I think (but don't feel) that it should be just a case of if it gets loud and quiet, doesn't colour tone, and lets you have some control over the shape, speed and intensity of the wave form. But it isn't.
And I don't know why.

Awesome to be reunited with old gear!
Not hoping my tremolo pedal gas at all. I was looking at these hard a while ago and the kinda forgot. Thanks a lot!

Re: Reunited And It Feels So Goooood
I used to have the brown behringer copy. I liked it. BUT! It was unfortunate that they cut corners with the pots, because about 75% of the difference in sounds came from about the last 10% of the sweep or each pot. So when the MS70 came out with trem and pan both on board, I got rid of mine.
I'm still getting the boss at some point just because.
